국문 초록

본 연구에서는 한국;중국;일본 3개국의 산업구조와 직업구조를 비교하여 조사함으로써 각 국의 사회경제적 발전 수준을 비교한 뒤;세 사회 간의 사회구조적 수렴(收斂) 수준을 평가하기 위해서 각 국에서 그 구성원들이 다양한 직업들에 대해 부여하는 선호(직업위세)를 비교하여 분석하였다. 경험자료의 분석에 기반해 볼 때;동아시아 3개국은 사회경제적 발전 단계에 있어서 상당히 큰 시간상의 격차를 드러내고 있다. 산업 구조나 직업 구조상의 수렴은 천천히 이루어지는 반면에;직업위세 수준에 대한 각국 구성원들의 순위 평가는 상대적으로 빠르게 수렴된 경향을 보인다. 중국의 구조적 변동 속도는 더디게 진행되는 반면에;중국인들의 인식과 태도는 일본이나 한국처럼 보다 선진화된 사회와 유사할 정도로 빠른 수렴의 경향을 보인다. 이러한 분석 결과는 수렴가설은 부분적으로만 지지하고 있는 셈이다. 수렴가설은 애초 구조적 수렴이 먼저 진행되고 사람들의 인식과 태도가 시간차를 갖고 수렴하는 경향을 상정하고 있기 때문에;본 연구 발견과는 순서가 뒤바뀐 형태로 수렴의 경향을 보이기 때문이다. 하지만;근대화이론의 수렴가설이 이러한 한계를 보인다고 해서 문화론의 이질성 이론이나 특수성 이론을 더 지지하는 결과는 아니다.

영문 초록

We investigate the level of socio-economic development in three East Asian societies by comparatively examining the structures of the industry and occupation. Peoples' preference for occupation is also examined to estimate the levels of convergence among those societies. With the support of empirical data;it is found that there is quite a huge time gap in the socio-economic development stages of the three East Asian societies. While the convergence of the industrial and occupational structures is slow;the convergence in prestige ranking of occupations is relatively fast. This represents that the perceptions and attitudes of Chinese show a rapid converging tendency with more advanced societies;but the speed of structural transformation of China is delayed. The results partially support the convergence hypothesis. However;this limit of modernization theory does not support heterogeneity nor specialty theories from culturalists.
