국문 초록

본 연구는 노인의 사회참여가 우울과 삶의 질에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 특히 사회취약계층 특성을 가진 노인들에게서 사회참여의 효과를 분석하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위해 보건복지부와 한국보건사회연구원이 실시한 ‘2020년 노인실태조사’ 자료를 활용하였으며, 총 9,920명의 데이터를 분석에 사용하였다. 주요 변수의 현황을 파악하기 위해 빈도분석, 기술통계, 상관분석을 실시하였고, 노인의 사회참여가 우울과 삶의 질에 미치는 영향을 검토하기 위해 다중회귀분석을 수행하였다. 또한, 사회취약계층 특성(예: 가구형태, 교육수준 등)에 따라 사회참여가 우울과 삶의 질에 미치는 효과를 비교하기 위해 층화분석을 적용하였다. 분석 결과, 노인의 사회참여가 증가할수록 우울 수준이 감소하고 삶의 질이 높아지는 경향이 나타났다. 특히, 가구형태와 교육수준과 같은 사회취약계층 특성과 그 범주에 따라 사회참여의 효과가 상이하게 나타나는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구는 이러한 결과를 바탕으로, 노인의 사회참여를 활성화하여 우울을 낮추고 삶의 질을 향상시킬 수 있는 정책적 함의를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of elderly‘s social participation on depression and quality of life, and additionally analyze the effects of social participation by the elderly with socially vulnerable characteristics. This research used data from 2020 National Survey of Older Koreans, conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs. 9,920 individuals aged over 65 were used for analysis. The analysis was performed through correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and sub-group analysis dividing gender, house type, level of education, number of chronic diseases, limitation of ADL. The results showed that as social participation increase, the elderly’s depression decreased and their quality of life increased. In addition, the effect of social participation was found to vary depending on the characteristics and categories of the socially vulnerable class. Based on the results, this study suggests policy implications to reduce depression and improve quality of life by encouraging social participation of the elderly.
