사이버 직업공동체의 호혜적 실천과 가능성

국문 초록

이 글의 목적은 사이버 공간 내 행위자들의 호혜적 실천을 살펴봄으로써, 그 공간에 형성된 직업공동체의 가능성을 탐색하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 연구자는 ‘큐레이터 세상’이라는 학예사 관련 인터넷 카페에서 활동하면서, 게시글과 댓글들을 분석하였다. 즉, 이 글은 일종의 ‘사이버 문화기술지’라 볼 수 있다. 이러한 게시글과 댓글들은 사이버 공간에서 개인의 정체성을 상징하는 동시에 타자와의 관계 형성을 의미한다. 여기에 존재하는 ‘호혜의 논리’는 이 사이버 공간을 사이버 공동체로 만든다. ‘비물질노동’의 개념은 이곳에서 발생하는 호혜적 실천을 재정의하여 그러한 활동을 노동의 범주에 포함시키고, 사이버 공동체를 ‘사이버 직업공동체’라 정의할 수 있는 근거를 제공한다. 이 공동체의 행위자들은 다른 익명의 행위자들에게 게시글이나 댓글의 형태로 ‘정보’나 ‘전략’을 요구하거나 수취한다. 이러한 선물은, 회원들이 ‘학예사’가 되어가는 여러 단계를 극복하는 데 큰 도움을 제공한다. 또한, 현직 학예사들은 자신들의 몸이 겪은 경험을 사이버 공간에서 공유하며, 학예사란 ‘직업’의 불안정한 상황을 헤쳐나가기 위한 여론과 규범을 조장한다. 본 연구는 이러한 다양한 측면을 고찰함으로써 이 사이버 직업공동체가 가진 ‘지옥 정치’와 ‘낙원 정치’의 두 가능성을 드러낸다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to explore the possibility of a professional community formed in the cyberspace by observing the reciprocal practice of actors. The researcher analyzed postings and comments online while actually working in cyberspace. In other words, this article can be seen as a ‘cyber ethnography’. These posts and comments represent individual identity in cyberspace, while at the same time become a channel to create relationships with others. The ‘logic of reciprocity’ that exists in the cyber space makes it a cyber community. The concept of “immaterial” redefines the reciprocal practices that arise here, includes them in the category of labor, and provides a basis for defining cyber community as “cyber professional community.” The community’s actors provide other anonymous actors with information or strategies at no cost in the form of postings or comments. Discussions among members further reinforce these gifts. These gifts greatly help members overcome the different stages of becoming ‘curator’. In addition, senior curators share their experiences in cyberspace, and they promote public opinion and norms to live with the unstable career as a curator. By looking at these various aspects, this study reveals the two possibilities of ‘inferno politics’ and ‘politics of paradise’ in this cyber-professional community.
