아동기 중도 시각장애인의 삶의 경험에 관한 생애사 연구 -만델바움(Mandelbaum)의 분석 방법을 중심으로-

국문 초록

본 연구는 아동기에 실명한 중도 시각장애인은 어떤 삶을 경험하였는지, 이들이 삶을 회복하고 건강한 사회생활을 하는 데 무엇이 도움이 되었는지 탐색하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 생애사 연구 방법과 만델바움(Mandelbaum)의 분석 방법을 사용하였다. 아동기 중도 시각장애인 세 명의 생애사를 삶의 영역(Dimensions), 전환점(Turning Points), 적응(Adaptations) 차원에서 분석하였다. 분석 결과 삶의 영역은 「사회 안전망 속에서 성장, 고등교육과 전문적 활동을 바탕으로 시각장애인 공동체의 리더로 발전」이었고, 전환점은 「위기 상황이 자기 성장의 기회」이었다. 적응은 「기회 활용, 끈질긴 도전, 책임감과 자기 초월」로 나타났다. 연구 참여자의 생애는 「어둠 속에서 빛을 발견하고 계속 넘어져도 다시 일어나서 닫힌 문 열어가기」라고 할 수 있다. 연구 결과를 통해 중도 시각장애인을 위한 사회복지 정책과 실천을 제언하였다. 중도 시각장애인의 욕구와 적성을 파악하여 잠재 능력을 발휘할 수 있도록 교육정책이 변화되어야 한다. 괜찮은 일자리 창출을 위해 혁신적인 장애인 고용정책의 변화가 필요하며, 시각장애인의 문화 활동의 개발과 지원정책이 필요하다. 중도 시각장애인의 사회적 지지체계를 확대하고 강화하는 실천이 중요하고, 중도 시각장애인 복지 실천에서 영성의 긍정적인 기능을 인식하고, 이를 삶의 회복에 활용할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore what kinds of life experiences visually impaired people in childhood, and what helped them recover their lives and lead a healthy social life. This study used the life history research method and Mandelbaum's analysis method. The life history of three participants was analyzed in terms of dimensions, turning points, and adaptations. As a result of the analysis, the life dimensions were “growth in a social safety net, development into a leader of the visually impaired community based on higher education and professional activities,” and the turning points were “crisis situations are the opportunities for self-growth.” Adaptations were shown as “utilization of opportunities, persistent challenges, and self-transcendence.” The life of this study participants can be said to be “finding light in the dark and getting up again even if you keep falling and opening the closed door.” I suggested social welfare policies and practices for the visually impaired. Educational policies should be changed so that the needs and aptitudes of the visually impaired can be identified and their potential can be demonstrated. It is necessary to change the innovative employment policy for the disabled to create decent jobs, and policies to develop culture activities for them. It is important to expand and strengthen the social support system of the visually impaired, and it is necessary to recognize the positive function of spirituality in the welfare practice of the visually impaired.
