유아교육에서 예술기반연구(Arts-Based Research)의 적용 가능성 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 실증주의에 기반한 전통적 교육연구가 인간 경험의 복합성과 정서적, 심미적 차원을 포착하는 데 한계가 있다는 문제의식에서 출발하여, 예술기반연구(ABR)가 유아교육 현장에 어떻게 적용될 수 있는지를 이론적, 실천적으로 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 이론적 문헌 분석과 고찰을 통해 예술기반연구의 등장 배경과 학문적 정당성, 그리고 예술교육과의 개념적 차이를 분석하였다. 방법론에서는 시각예술 기반, 공연예술 기반, 문학적 기반, 시적 탐구, 디지털 스토리텔링 등 다양한 예술적 접근 방식을 체계적으로 정리하고 적용 가능성을 제시하였다. 예술기반연구의 사례분석을 통해 학문적 확장을 위한 과정 을 분석하고, 유아교육 분야에서 교사와 유아, 부모의 경험을 예술적 실천을 통해 해석하는 접근을 제안하였 다. 고찰 결과, 예술기반연구는 감정, 상징, 상호작용을 다감각적으로 포착함으로써 교사의 정체성과 실천을 성찰적으로 탐색하는 데 유의미한 방법론임을 제안하였다. 이를 통해 예술기반연구가 지닌 다중감각적 재현, 상징적 사고와 해석, 창작이 통합된 과정, 그리고 비판적 성찰을 지향하는 특징을 분석할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 예술기반연구가 유아교육 현장의 정서적 깊이와 존재론적 이해를 확장하는 혁신적 연구 방법이 될 수 있음을 논의하며, 향후 교육연구의 새로운 지평을 열어갈 가능성을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study addresses the limitations of traditional positivist educational research in capturing the complexity, emotional depth, and aesthetic dimensions of human experience. It explores how Arts-Based Research (ABR) can be theoretically and practically applied to early childhood education. Through literature analysis, the emergence and academic legitimacy of ABR and its conceptual distinctions from arts education are examined. Various artistic approaches— visual arts, performance-based inquiry, literary and poetic inquiry, and digital storytelling—are systematically reviewed for their applicability. Case analyses illustrate how ABR expands academic inquiry and offers new interpretive pathways for understanding teachers’, young children’s, and parents’ experiences through artistic practices. The findings suggest that ABR captures emotions, symbols, and interactions multisensorially and supports reflective exploration of teacher identity and practice. ABR’s focus on multisensory representation, integration of symbolic thinking, and critical reflection highlights its potential as an innovative methodology. This study concludes that ABR can deepen emotional and ontological understanding in early childhood education and open new directions for educational research.
