국문 초록

This study aimed to examine the effects of cognitive decline on depression and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) among community-dwelling older adults in Korea. Using data from 9,951 individuals aged 65 and older, collected by a national health and welfare survey, we measured cognitive function with the Korean Mini-Mental State Examination (K-MMSE-2), depression using the Korean version of the Short Form of Geriatric Depression Scale (SGDS-K), and functional abilities using the Korean versions of the Activities of Daily Living (K-ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (K-IADL) scales. Statistical analyses including Pearson’s correlation and multiple regression were performed using Python. Cognitive decline was significantly associated with increased depression scores and decreased ADL and IADL performance. The relationship was particularly strong in individuals who were older, female, less educated, and from low-income backgrounds. Cognitive impairment in older adults has a substantial impact on emotional health and independent functioning. These findings highlight the need for integrated interventions that address both cognitive and psychosocial aspects of aging.
