국문 초록

Gastric cancer is the fifth most common cancer worldwide and one of the top ten cancers in Korea. Anticancer drugs for the treatment of gastric cancer are continuously being developed, and recently, research is being conducted on drug repurposing to develop new medical uses for drugs that have already been released on the market or failed to be commercialized in the clinical stage for reasons other than safety. In this study, we confirmed that the human gastric cancer cell line AGS treated with bee venom B4-eBV (eBV) inhibited cell proliferation, further regulated the expression of Bax, and Caspase 9, induced apoptosis, and induced cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase, thereby inducing apoptosis. Our findings that bee venom inhibits the proliferation of AGS and might engage the intrinsic apoptotic pathway, ultimately inducing cell death, suggest that bee venom may be a candidate for novel drug repurposing as a new anticancer agent for gastric cancer.
