국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생의 탐정업 진로 태도와 직업 인식 수준을 탐색적으로 분석하고, 인식 개선 및 진로 활성화를 위한 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 탐정업은 2020년 ｢신용정보의 이용 및 보호에 관한 법률｣ 개정을 통해 일부 민간조사 활동이 가능해졌으나, 여전히 법적ㆍ제도적 기반이 미비하고 사회적 신뢰 또한 충분히 확보되지 못한 상태에 있다. 이에 본 연구는 충청권 소재 대학의 경찰행정학 전공 학부생 12명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하여, 대학생들의 탐정업에 대한 태도와 인식이 어떠한 사회ㆍ제도적 맥락 속에서 형성되는지를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 학생들의 진로 태도는 사회적 인식, 제도적ㆍ교육적ㆍ개인적 요인이 복합적으로 작용하여 형성되는 것으로 드러났다. 또한 탐정업을 진로로 고려하는 과정에서는 사회적 편견, 제도적 불확실성, 직업 안정성 부족이 주요 제약 요인으로 확인되었다. 반면, 제도 정비, 교육적 기반 구축, 사회적 이미지 개선, 학계ㆍ산업계ㆍ정부 간 협력적 지원이 병행될 경우 대학생들의 진로 수용성이 확대될 수 있음을 보여주었다. 이러한 결과는 탐정업이 현실적인 진로 대안으로 자리매김하기 위해서는 법ㆍ제도적 기반 강화, 교육ㆍ양성 체계의 마련, 사회적 인식 개선이 선행되어야 함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study investigates university students’ career attitudes and occupational perceptions of the private investigation profession, with a focus on identifying conditions for enhancing awareness and promoting career development in this emerging field. Although the 2020 amendment to the Credit Information Use and Protection Act formally permitted limited private investigative activities, the profession in Korea continues to lack a robust legal-institutional framework and remains constrained by insufficient societal trust. To examine how students construct meanings around this profession, in-depth interviews were conducted with 12 undergraduate students majoring in Police Administration at universities in the Chungcheong region. The analysis demonstrates that students’ career orientations are shaped through the interplay of social recognition, institutional stability, educational opportunities, and personal value orientations. Social prejudice, regulatory uncertainty, and concerns over employment security were identified as critical barriers, whereas institutional reform, the establishment of systematic educational and training infrastructures, improvements in public image, and collaborative support across academia, industry, and government were regarded as prerequisites for increasing career acceptance. These findings suggest that the professionalization of private investigation in Korea requires not only legal and institutional consolidation but also educational development and the cultivation of positive societal recognition in order to position it as a legitimate and sustainable career pathway for university students.
