교사로서 남명이 지닌 권위를 통한 현대 사회의 교권 문제해결 방안 모색

국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구에서는 최근 한국 사회에서 심화되고 있는 교권 침해 문제해결을 위해 교권 회복을 위한 방안을 모색하고자 한다. 연구방법: 조선시대 남명 조식이 지닌 교사로서의 권위에 대해 살펴보고 남명의 교육 방법 속에서 교권 회복에 유의미한 활동을 찾아 현대적으로 해석하여 교사들의 실천 방안을 제시하였다. 연구결과: 교사로서 남명의 권위는 크게 세 가지 측면에서 파악할 수 있는데, 먼저 그는 경과 의를 통해 내면의 수양을 지속하며 가르치는 사람으로서 도덕적 모범을 보였고, 열린 사고를 바탕으로 교육이론 및 방법을 다양화하여 전문성을 신장하였다. 둘째로 그는 학생에 대한 사랑과 이해를 바탕으로 맞춤형 교육을 실시하였으며 제자들의 단점을 충고할 때는 그들의 상황을 이해하고 따뜻한 말로 조언하였다. 마지막으로 그는 자신의 학문 세계를 사회문제와 연결하면서 백성과 국가를 위해 자신이 해야 할 일을 찾고 적극적으로 실천하였다. 결론: 남명의 사상과 교육관을 현대적으로 해석한 이후 교권 회복을 위해서는 교사의 내면적 수양과 전문성 확보, 교사와 학생 사이의 관계 성찰, 실천적 지식인으로서의 모범이 필요함을 역설하였다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study, aimed to solve the problem of the infringement on teaching authority, which has recently been intensifying in Korean society, and to create a plan to restore teaching authority. Methods: The authority of Nammyeong as a teacher in the Joseon Dynasty was examined, and the researchers discovered activities that were meaningful for the restoration of teaching authority in Nammyeong's teaching method. These activities were interpreted modernly, and teachers' action plans are suggested. Results: As a teacher, the authority of Nammyeong can be grasped from three main aspects. First, he set a moral example as a person who teaches while continuing his inner discipline through Gyeong and Ui, and he increased his expertise by diversifying educational theories and methods based on open thinking. Second, he provided customized education based on love and understanding of students, and when advising students on their shortcomings, he understood their situation and advised them with warm words. Finally, he found and actively practiced what he had to do for the people and the country while connecting his academic world with social problems. Conclusion: After a modern interpretation of Nammyeong's ideas and educational views, it was emphasized that in order to restore teaching authority, it is necessary to secure the inner discipline and expertise of teachers, reflect on the relationship between teachers and students, and to provide examples as a practical intellectual.
