이 논문은 동편제 중 송만갑제 장판개 바디 <수궁가>의 서사적 특징을 분석한 것이다. 장판개 바디 <수궁가>는 전승이 끊어졌다고 알려졌으나, 그의 조카인 장월중선이 어린 시절 학습한 내용이 정순임에게 이어졌고, 이는 정순임이 복원 및 정리하여 발표한 음반 등을 통해 그 모습을 확인할 수 있다. 비교 창본인 박초월바디 <수궁가>와의 서사구조 및 대목 구성 비교를 통한 장판개 바디 <수궁가>의 특징을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 풍부한 서사적 장치의 삽입이다. 장판개 바디 <수궁가>는 등장인물 및 장면의 추가, 다양한 의성어와 의태어의 사용 등을 통해 연극적 요소가 강조된 모습을 보인다. 둘째, 다양한 ‘창조’의 활용이다. ‘창조’는 고제 판소리의 특징 중 하나로, 장판개바디 <수궁가>는 소리조 아니리가 창으로 독립되지 않은 고형의 모습이 등장한다. 또한 다양한 소리조 아니리가 사용되었고, 이를 말조 아니리와 섞어 배치하며 장면 및 감정의 효과적인 전달을 가능케 했다. 셋째, 간략한 약성가 대목이다. 약성가는 <수궁가>를 대표하는 대목 중 하나로 장판개 바디 <수궁가>는 박초월 바디 <수궁가>에 비해 간략한 내용으로 구성되어 있다. 이러한 차이는 판소리 계보에서 기인하는 것으로 장판개 바디 등의 송만갑제<수궁가>는 고형의 모습을 유지한 반면 박초월 바디 등의 유성준제 <수궁가>는 당시에 퍼져있던 약성가를 적극적으로 받아들여 많은 더늠을 이루었음을 유추할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the narrative characteristics of Sugungga, specifically the Jang Pan-gae version, within the Song Man-kap tradition of the Dongpyeonje. Although the transmission of the Jang Pan-gae Sugungga was believed to have been discontinued, it was in fact passed down from Jang Woljungseon, the nephew of Jang Pan-gae, to Jeong Sun-im. Jeong Sun-im later reconstructed and presented the work through recordings, allowing us to examine its form. A comparison with Park Cho-wol’s version of Sugungga reveals the three key features of the Jang Pan-gae version. First, it incorporates rich narrative devices. This version emphasizes theatrical elements by adding characters and scenes and employing a wide range of onomatopoeia and mimetic expressions. Second, it utilizes various forms of “chang-jo.” “Chang-jo” is a hallmark of classical pansori, and in this version, unrefined forms where sorijo aniri (narrative parts in melodic tone) are not fully distinguished from singing remain intact. The frequent alternation between sorijo aniri and maljo aniri (spoken narrative) enhances the emotional expression and scene delivery. Third, the Yakseongga passage is presented in a simplified form. As a signature section of Sugungga, the Yakseongga is notably more concise in the Jang Pan-gae version than in the Park Cho-wol version. This difference is rooted in the Pansori lineage. The Song Man-kap style, which includes Jang Pan-gae’s version, retains classical traits, but in contrast, the Yu Seong-jun style, which includes Park Cho-wol’s version, actively adopted the popular Yakseongga of the time, resulting in extensive variations.
