동초제 <흥보가> ‘놀보 박타령’이면 연구

국문 초록

본고에서는 필자가 제시한 판소리 이면 해석을 위한 구체적인 분석 틀을 동초제<흥보가> ‘놀보 박타령’에 적용하여 음악의 길 음악과 연행의 사실적 표현이 사설 및 극적 상황과 부합하였는지를 분석하였다. 분석 기준은 음악의 길, 성음, 장단연행의 너름새, 연극적 표현의 다섯 항목으로 설정하였으며, 동초제 <흥보가>를 학습한 석사과정 이상의 10인의 검토를 통해 타당성을 확보하고자 하였다. 분석 결과, 전체 15대목 중 4대목이 판소리 이면에 부합하는 것으로 확인되었다. 특히 성음과 장단은 인물의 감정 표현과 극적 상황 전달에 중요한 역할을 하였다. 반면 ‘길’은 상대적으로 낮은 부합도를 보여 판소리 표현에서 ‘길’보다는 ‘성음’과 ‘장단’이 더 중시됨을 시사한다. 또한 연행 측면에서는 부채 사용, 너름새, 발림, 목소리 변화 등을 통해 극적 분위기와 인물의 정서를 사실적으로 구현하고 있었으며 이는 판소리 연행자 개인의 창조적 해석과 연극적 상상력이 판소리 이면 구성에 중요한 역할을 한다는 점을 보여준다. 10인을 대상으로 한 이면 분석의 타당성 검토 결과, 9인이 본고의 이면 분석 전체 내용이 이면에 부합한다고 판단하였다. 검토 과정에서 판소리가 체득을 통해 전승되는 예술이라는 특성상 절대적 기준보다는 유연한 해석 틀을 바탕으로 접근할 필요성이 강조되었으며, 사실적 표현에 대한 명확한 개념 정립의 필요성도 제기되었다. 또한 판소리에서는 ‘길’보다는 ‘성음’이 중요한 요소로 작용하며, 20세기 이후 판소리의 계면화 양상에 대한 고려도 필요하다는 점이 시사되었다. 본고는 판소리 이면의 해석 가능성에 대한 실험적 접근을 시도하였다는 데 의의가 있으며, 향후 연구에서는 다른 유파와의 비교나 청중 및 수용자 반응 분석 등을 통해 판소리 이면 해석의 학술적·교육적 활용 가능성을 확장할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study proposes a concrete analytical framework for interpreting the latent dimension (e-meon) of pansori and applies it to ‘Nolbo Bak-Taryeong’ from the Dongcho-je . The analysis examines how the musical path (gil), vocal tone (seongeum), rhythmic patterns (jangdan), performance gestures (neoreumsae), and theatrical expressions correspond with the lyrics and dramatic contexts. To validate the framework, a panel of ten pansori performers with at least a master’s degree and formal training in the Dongcho-je school reviewed the analysis. The results show that among the 15 sections analyzed, 4 were found to align with the proposed e-meon criteria. Notably, ‘seongeum’ and ‘jangdan’ played significant roles in conveying emotional expression and dramatic intensity. In contrast, the ‘gil’ element showed a relatively low level of correspondence, suggesting that ‘seongeum’ and ‘jangdan’ hold greater significance in pansori performance. In terms of performative expression, the use of the fan, gestures, facial expressions, and vocal modulation effectively embodied the characters' emotions and the dramatic atmosphere. These findings highlight the importance of the performer's creative interpretation and theatrical imagination in constructing the e-meon. In the review, 9 out of 10 experts judged that the overall analysis aligned with the concept of e-meon. They emphasized that pansori, as a tradition transmitted through embodied practice, requires a flexible interpretative framework rather than a rigid standard. Additionally, they noted the need for a more precise conceptualization of “realistic expression,” and pointed out that ‘seongeum’ is more critical than ‘gil’ in contemporary pansori practice, particularly in light of stylistic changes toward gyemyeon style since the 20th century. This study holds significance as an experimental attempt to explore the interpretability of pansori's latent dimension. Future research may expand the academic and pedagogical applications of e-myeon analysis through comparative studies across different lineages and investigations into audience reception and perception.
