‘중국식 현대화’ 관련 주요 용어의 한국어 번역에 대한 한국인의 이해와 수용 연구 - 20대 대학(원)생을 중심으로

국문 초록

본고는 '중국식 현대화' 관련 주요 용어의 한국어 번역에 대한 한국 20대 대학(원)생의 이해와 수용을 살펴봤다. 연구의 결과, 경제, 생태, 사회, 외교 등 분야 용어의 한국어 번역에 대한 이해도와 수용도가 높은 편이었으며 종합 분야 용어와 정치 분야 용어의 이해도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 중국어 원문 구조대로 대응되는 한국어 한자어로 번역하거나 중국어 한자를 그대로 한국어 한자 음으로 옮기고 한자를 병기하는 번역어에 대해 이해도와 수용도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 이에 비해 중국어 원문의 의미를 풀어서 설명하는 식으로 번역하거나 한국어 상용 어휘로 번역하는 번역어에 대해 이해도와 수용도가 보다 높은 것으로 나타났다. 한국인의 이해도와 수용도에 영향을 미치는 요인은 언어적 원인과 사회문화적 요인으로 나눌 수 있다. 언어적 요인은 다시 부자연스러운 호응 관계, 어휘 사용 맥락의 차이, 한국어에 맞지 않는 문법 구조, 중국식 한자어로 나눌 수 있으며 사회문화적 요인은 정치 체제 차이로 인한 이질감과 거부감, 배경 지식의 부족으로 인한 낯섦으로 나누어질 수 있다. 이해도와 수용도에 영향을 미치는 요인은 복잡성을 지녀 두 가지 요인이 동시에 작용하는 경우도 있었다. 따라서 중국식 현대화 관련 용어의 한국어 번역을 수정할 때 영향 요인을 충분히 고려할 필요가 있다. 특히 사회문화적 차이로 인해 이해도와 수용도가 낮은 경우에는 이질감이나 거부감을 해소하는 방법을 모색할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This paper examined the understanding and acceptance of Korean university students and postgraduates in their 20s on the Korean translation of key terms related to‘Chinese path to modernization’. As a result, it was found that the understanding and acceptance of Korean translation of terms in the fields of economy, ecology,society, and diplomacy were high, and the understanding of terms in the comprehensive field and the political field was low. Factors influencing Koreans’understanding and acceptance can be divided into linguistic and socio-cultural factors. Linguistic factors can be further divided into unnatural correspondence, differences in vocabulary usage context, grammatical structures that do not fit Korean, and Chinese hanja vocabulary. Sociocultural factors can be divided into heterogeneity and rejection due to political system differences, and unfamiliarity due to lack of background knowledge. In some cases, two factors worked at the same time because of their complexity in the factors influencing understanding and acceptance. Therefore, it is necessary to fully consider the influencing factors when revising the Korean translation of terms related to ‘Chinese path to modernization’. In particular, when understanding and acceptance are low due to socio-cultural differences, it is necessary to find a way to resolve the sense of heterogeneity or rejection.
