국문 초록

외국인 학습자들의 한국어 교육 목표는 일상생활에 필요한 의사소통능력을 기르는 것일 것이다. 외국인 학습자는 교실에서는 다양한 문화권의 학습자들과 목표어권의 교사 사이에서 문화간 의사소통이 이루어지고 있다. 문화간 의사소통은 다른 문화배경을 가진 사람들과 대화할 때 생기는 문화적 차이점을 인식하고 이를 이해하며, 상황에 맞는적절한 행동을 취할 수 있으며 서로의 의사를 전달하고 이해하는 능력을 말한다. 즉, 문화간 의사소통 능력은 서로의 문화 차이점을 인식하여 의사소통에서 발생할 수 있는 오해와 갈등을 줄여 의사소통이 성공적으로 이루어지도록 하는 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 문화간 의사소통 능력 향상을 위한 수업으로 탄뎀 수업을 실례로 보여주고자 한다. 탄뎀 수업은 외국인 학습자와 한국인 학습자가 일대일 즉, 면대면으로만나 학습하는 것이므로 목표어, 목표 문화를 직접적으로 체험하고 실천할 수 있기 때문에 문화간 의사소통 능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 가장적절한 교수학습 형태라 할 수 있다. 이에 세 학기 동안 탄뎀 수업을 수강한 외국인 학습자 33명과 한국인 학습자 35명을 대상으로 학습자들의 문화 간 의사소통능력 양상을 살펴보며, 또한 탄뎀 수업 운영 방식과 학습자들의 성취도와 만족도에 대해 알아보고자 하였다.

영문 초록

Goal of Koreanlanguage education to foreign students is to build communication skillsneeded for their daily lives. Foreign students experience interculturalcommunication with other students from various cultures and the instructorof the target language. Intercultural communicative competenceis the ability to recognize cultural differences, behave properly in thegiven situation and to communicate and understand each other clearly. This study introduces tandem class as a case of a class for improvingintercultural communicative competence. Tandem class is a class thatapplies tandem language learning in which a group of two people ofdifferent mother tongues gets together to learn each other's language. Intandem class, foreign student and Korean student have one on one,face-to-face session to directly experience the target language and culturetherefore it is the most proper teaching/learning method to improveintercultural communicative competence. This study examines the trendof intercultural communicative competence of 33 foreign students and 35Korean students who took tandem classes for 3 semesters; how tandemclasses were managed; and how much the students improved and weresatisfied.
