언택트 시대, 영화제의 변화상과 새로운 가능성

국문 초록

이 글은 코로나19의 대유행으로 ‘언택트’로 대변되는 신문화적 현상이 크게확산된 2020년 주요 영화제의 변화상과 가능성을, 영상 테크놀지와의 관계를 중심으로 탐색한 연구의 결과물이다. 2020년 개최된 많은 영화제들은 코로나19의 확산 시기 및 방역 여건에 따라, 그리고 영화제의 성격 또는 운영 방침 등에 따라그 대처 방식을 달리하였다. 그리고 이들 영화제는 오프라인을 통한 행사 진행을추진하면서도 온라인 시스템과 영상 테크놀로지를 활용하였다는 점에서 공통된경향을 띠었다. 그 바탕에는, 이미 다양한 형태로 온라인 유통 및 관람 시스템이저변을 확대해 가고 있던 최근의 영상 문화적 흐름이 자리한다. 따라서, 코로나19 가 진정된 이후의 언택트 시대에도 영화제의 중심은 오프라인 행사가 차지할 확률이 높을 듯하다. 다만 영화제 개최 장소를 방문하지 못하는 사람들을 위한 온라인 서비스의 구축은 갈수록 체계화될 것으로 보인다. 그러나 보다 장기적 관점에서, 2020년 이전에도 이미 선보여져 왔던 온라인 행사의 비중이 점차 커져 가리라 예측된다. 아울러, 그 기저에 영상 테크놀로지를 비롯한 제반 기술의 진보적발전이 전제되어야 함은 물론이다. 이에, 영화제 관계자 및 영화계 종사자들은 코로나19의 진행 상황을 계속 주시하는 동시에 과거 ‘콘택트’ 시대와 향후 ‘온택트’ 시대의 양면적 경향과 흐름을 두루 고려해야 할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Through this thesis, I have explored the changes and possibilities of various film festivals in 2020, in which the phenomenon of “Untact” greatly spread due to the pandemic of COVID-19, focusing on the relationship with visual technology. Many film festivals held in 2020 differed according to the time of the spread of COVID-19, the quarantine situation by country and region, and the characteristics of the film festival. In addition, these film festivals had a common flow in that they used online system and visual technology while promoting events through offline. On the basis of that, there is an visual cultural trend, which has already expanded the base of online distribution and viewing systems in various forms. Therefore, even after the special situation caused by COVID-19 is over, it is likely that offline events will occupy the center of the film festival. However, the establishment of online services for those who cannot visit the festival venue is expected to become more and more systematic. Furthermore, from a longer-term perspective, it is predicted that the proportion of online events that have already been presented before 2020 will gradually increase. Of course, the premise is the progressive development of all technologies, including visual technology. Accordingly, it is necessary for film festival officials and film industry workers to keep an eye on the progress of COVID-19 and to take into account the two-sided trends of the past “Contact” era and the future “Ontact” era.
