국문 초록

이 연구는 1970∼80년대 제작된 일부 한국 독립영화에서 도시 교향곡의 장르적 특징이 나타났음에 주목한다. 분석 대상으로 선정한 작품은 <아침과 저녁사이>(1970), <서울 7000>(1976), <국풍>(1981)이다. 도시 교향곡은 하루 동안에 일어나는 도시의 삶을 시적인 이미지의 몽타주로 표현한 작품을 가리킨다. 이 장르는 한편으로는 실험적인 영화 만들기에 관한 것으로, 다른 한편으로는 근대 대도시의 삶에 대한 비판적인 성찰에 관한 것으로 이해된다. 도시 교향곡의 프레임으로 1970∼80년대 한국 독립영화를 살펴본다는 것은, 이 시기 한국 독립영화의 미학적 가능성과 정치적 비전을 함께 고찰한다는 것을 의미한다. <아침과 저녁사이>는 도시를 배회하는 한 청년의 모습을 따라가면서, 급격한 도시화 과정에서 소외된 인간의 형상을 비개연적인 서사와 초현실적인 이미지를 통해서 표현한다. <서울 7000>은 스톱 모션 기법으로 자동차, 버스, 열차, 군중의 움직임을 역동적으로 그려낸다. <국풍>은 관제적인 행사로 기획된 국풍81의 이면을 드러내고 그것을 비판하기 위해 이질적인 이미지와 사운드의 배치를 효과적으로 활용한다. 각기 다른 스타일을 가지고 있는 이 세 작품의 관계를 통해서 한국 독립영화가도시 교향곡을 장르적으로 시도하고, 정립하고, 발전시켰다는 사실과 마주할 수있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study notes that some Korean independent films produced in the 1970s and 1980s showed the genre characteristics of city symphonies. The works selected for analysis are From Morning To Evening(1970), Seoul 7000 (1976), and Gukpung (1981). City symphonies refer to the work of sketching a poetic image of the city’s life that takes place during the day. This genre is understood to be about making experimental films, and critical reflections on the lives of modern big cities. Looking at Korean independent films from the 1970s and 1980s as a frame of city symphonies means looking at the aesthetic possibilities and political visions of Korean independent films during this period. From Morning To Evening follows a young man wandering around the city, expressing the figure of a human being alienated in the process of rapid urbanization through an improbable narrative and surreal image. Seoul 7000 is a stop motion technique that dynamically depicts the movement of cars, buses, trains, and crowds. Gukpung effectively utilizes the differential image and sound layout to reveal the background of Gukpung81, which was planned as a controlling event, and to criticize it. Interestingly, if you look at these three works in different styles in time series, you can face the fact that Korean independent films have tried, established, and developed city symphonies in genres.
