국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 영화의 주인공인 세브린느의 이해되지 않는 행동, 즉 사회적으로 요조숙녀의 위치에 있는 그녀가 왜 낮 시간에 창녀로서 생활하는지를 정신분석적으로 설명하기 위한 것이다. 본 글에서는 다섯 개의 환상과 두 개의 회상을 그녀의 심리로 들어가는 실마리로 잡았다. 이해하기 힘든 행동은 무의식적 욕망으로만 설명될 수 있는데 그것은 환상 속에서 가장 잘 드러나기 때문이다. 동시에 세브린느의 말을 통해 피학증적 사랑과 창녀 생활에 대한 그녀 내면의 진실을 분석하려고 하였다. 그녀의 환상은 그녀가 피학증적 사랑을 욕망하고 있음을잘 보여준다. 그녀는 창녀 생활을 하면 할수록 평소 멀게 느껴지던 남편과의 관계가 더 가깝게 느껴지고 남편을 더 사랑하게 된다고 고백한다. 그녀는 창녀 생활을 통해 남편인 피에르가 프로이트가 말하는 ‘상처 입은 제삼자’가 되어 자신에 대해 엄청난 의심과 질투, 분노와 공격성을 보여주기를 원한다. 그래야 자신이원하는 피학증적 사랑을 충족시킬 수 있고 동시에 자신이 피에르의 욕망의 대상임을 확인할 수 있기 때문이다. 세브린느는 남편 피에르가 마르셀처럼 상처 입은제삼자가 되어 매춘부에 대한 사랑처럼 격렬한 사랑을 해주기를 갈망한다. 영화의 마지막 시퀀스에서 전신마비가 되어 휠체어에 앉아있는 피에르가 위송에게서 모든 이야기를 들은 후에 눈물을 흘리고, 그 모습을 바라보는 세브린느는미소를 짓는다. 피에르가 눈물을 흘린다는 것은 그가 상처 입은 제삼자가 되었다는 의미이고 그래서 세브린느는 미소를 짓는다. 영화의 마지막 장면은 피에르가휠체어에서 일어서는 환상으로 끝나는데 그것은 영화의 첫 장면으로 이어진다. 영화의 첫 시퀀스에서 피에르는 세브린느와 함께 마차를 타고 가면서 “나도 과격해질 수 있어”라고 말한다. 환상 속에서 피에르가 변한 것이다. 마지막 장면에서위송에게서 모든 것을 들은 피에르가 상처 입은 제삼자가 되면서 질투와 의심, 분노와 공격성을 일으킨다. 그래서 마부에게 세브린느를 마차에서 끌어내려 채찍으로 때리게 하고 강간하게 한다. 세브린느는 남편이 자신을 욕망하게 만들면서동시에 자신의 피학증적 욕망도 충족시킨다. 영화는 환상 속에서 해피엔딩으로끝난다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to explain the incomprehensible behavior of Séverine who is the main character from a Freudian psychoanalytic perspective. It’s not easy to understand why she lives as a prostitute during the day, even though she is an elegant lady from a part of her society’s upper class. There are five fantasies and two recollections captured as clues into her psychology. Because her incomprehensible behavior can only be explained via unconscious desires they are best revealed in fantasies. Furthermore, the author attempted to analyze her inner truth of masochistic love and prostitution through her own words. She confesses that the more she lives as a prostitute, the closer and more in love she feels to her husband to whom she usually feels distant. Her fantasies show well that she has a strong desire for masochistic love. Throughout her life as a prostitute, she desires her husband Pierre to be Freud’s ‘injured third party’ and shows great doubt, jealousy, anger and aggression against her. Only then can she satisfy the masochistic love she desires, and confirm that she is the object of Pierre’s desire. Séverine longs for her husband Pierre to be an ‘injured third party’ as Marcel does and gives her intense love, such as a love for prostitutes. In the final sequence of the film, Pierre, who is paralyzed, sits in a wheelchair and shed tears after hearing the whole story from Husson. Séverine smiles at the sight of him grieving. Pierre’s tears mean he has become the ‘injured third party’. This is why Séverine smiles. The last scene of the film ends with a fantasy of Pierre standing up from his wheelchair, which leads to the first scene of the film. In the first sequence, Pierre says to Séverine as he goes in a carriage. “I can be violent, too.” In the fantasy, Pierre has changed. When Pierre hears the whole story, he becomes the ‘injured third party’. It causes him to feel jealousy and anger. That’s why he orders the horseman to pull Séverine off the wagon, whip her and rape her. Finally, Séverine makes her husband desire her and fulfills her masochistic desire at the same time. The film ends with a fantastical happy ending.
