국문 초록

본 연구는 국내 박사인력들의 성별 임금 격차의 예측요인과 그것들의 영향력의 양상을 실증적으로 탐색하기 위해 수행되었다. 2021 KCDH 데이터 중 현재 취업 중이며 21세~ 65세 사이의 3,573명에 대해 151개 ~ 153개 설명변수를 투입해 박사인력 임금 수준을 예측하는 랜덤 포레스트 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 성별 변수 2개는 모두 상위 20개 주요 변수에 포함되었고, 이중 남성은 임금과 정적 관계를, 여성은 부적 관계를 형성하는 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 남녀 집단별로 임금에 대해 랜덤 포레스트 분석을 실시한 결과, 여성 박사인력들의 임금을 예측하는 주요 설명변수들의 특징들이 나타났다. 남성에 비해 여성들은 현 일자리에서의 주당 근무시간과 비정규직과 같은 고용 지위, 박사과정의 학비 마련 방법, 전공-직무 불일치나 하향취업 관련 변수들의 중요성이 더 컸다. 또한 육아 부담이 임금에 끼치는 모성 임금 패널티에서도 여성은 남성보다 더 불리한 위치에 처해 있음이 나타났다. 이러한 분석 결과에 대한 논의와 정책적 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This is an emprical study that explores the predictors and the patterns influence of gender wage gap among domestic doctorate holders in Korea. Using the 2021 KCDH data, a random forest analysis was conducted on 3,573 employed individuals aged 21 to 65, with 151 to 153 explanatory variables predicting the wage levels of doctorate holders. The results showed that both gender variables were included in the top 20 major variables. Among these, men had a positive relationship with wages, while women had a negative relationship. A subsequent random forest analysis was performed on male and female doctorate holders seperately to idendify key predictors of wages. The findings reveaed that, compared to men, women placed greater importance on variables such as weekly working hours at their current job, employment status (e.g., non-regular employment), methods of funding doctoral studies, and mismatches between major and occupation or downward mobility. The analysis also highlighted that women were found to be in a more disadvantageous position than men when it comes to the motherhood wage penlty. The study discusses theses findings and presents policy implications aimed at promoting the career development of female doctorates.
