칼슨(Karlsen)의 음악적 행위주체성 개념에 대한 이론적 탐색 및 초등 음악교육적 함의

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 Karlsen이 제안한 음악적 행위주체성 개념을 이론적으로 분석하고 이 개념이 초등 음악교육에 갖는 교육적 함의를 도출하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 문헌연구 방법을 활용하여 음악교육철학, 음악사회학, 심리학 등 다양한 학문 분야에서 제시된 선행 이론과 Karlsen의 렌즈 모델을 중심으로 음악적 행위주체성 개념의 이론적 기반을 고찰하였다. 특히 Karlsen이 제시한 개인적 차원과 집단적 차원의 11가지 세부 구성요소와 다섯 개의 포괄 주제를 분석틀로 삼아 초등 음악교육에 적용 가능한 교육적 시사점을 도출하였다. 연구 결과, Karlsen의 음악적 행위주체성 개념은 학생 중심·민주적 수업 설계의 이론적 근거, 교사의 촉진자 역할 재정립, 전인적 성장과 평생학습 기반 조성, 음악과 교육과정의 유연하고 다층적인 재구성, 창의적 교수법 개발 등 다섯 가지 교육적 함의를 제공한다. 본 연구는 Karlsen의 음악적 행위주체성 개념이 초등학생의 음악 경험과 주체성 강화를 위한 교육적 관점을 제공함을 이론적으로 탐색하였다. 향후에는 이론의 현장 적용 가능성을 검토하기 위한 실증 연구가 필요하며 이를 위해 평가 도구 개발, 수업 효과 검증, 사례 분석 등이 주요한 후속 과제가 될 수 있다. 또한 Karlsen의 관점을 반영한 교육과정 설계와 교사 역량 강화도 함께 이루어져야 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to theoretically examine the concept of musical agency as proposed by Karlsen (2011) and to explore its educational implications for elementary music education. Employing a literature review methodology, this study draws on interdisciplinary perspectives from music education philosophy, music sociology, and educational psychology to analyze the theoretical foundations of musical agency. Central to the analysis is Karlsen’s lens model, which delineates six individual and five collective dimensions of musical agency, as well as five overarching themes. Using these elements as an analytical framework, the study derives five key implications for elementary music education: 1) theoretical justification for student-centered and democratic instructional design, 2) redefinition of the teacher’s role as a facilitator, 3) promotion of holistic development and lifelong engagement in music, 4) flexible and multi-layered reconstruction of the music curriculum, and 5) development of creative and participatory pedagogical practices. These findings affirm the potential of Karlsen’s model to strengthen students’ agency through meaningful musical experiences in school. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for further empirical research, including development of assessment tools, validation of teaching practices, and classroom-based case analyses, along with curriculum reform and teacher professional development.
