중년기 농인여성의 신체적 변화 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 중년기 농인여성이 신체적 변화를 어떻게 경험하고, 그 경험에 어떠한 의미를 부여하는지 심층적으로 탐색하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 수어를 사용하여 5명의 농인여성과 심층인터뷰를 진행하였으며, 자료는 Colaizzi의 기술적 현상학(descriptive phenomenology) 절차에 따라 분석하였다. 분석 결과, ‘감각기능 변화로 인한 일상의 균열과 재구성’, ‘신체 통증과 갱년기 변화에 대한 이해와 점진적 적응’, ‘자기돌봄의 실천과 구조적 제약’이라는 세 가지 범주가 도출되었다. 중년기 농인여성의 신체적 변화는 단순한 노화에 따른 생리적 기능 저하를 넘어, 일상과 소통의 기반을 위협하는 중대한 전환점이자 존재론적 위기로 인식되었다. 이에 대응하여 연구참여자들은 삶의 구조를 재구성하고, 주체적으로 자기돌봄을 실천해 나갔다. 이 과정에서 성취감을 경험하기도 하였으나 청인 중심으로 설계된 서비스 및 지원체계와 같은 구조적 한계를 직면하기도 하였다. 본 연구는 중년기 농인여성의 신체 변화가 생물학적 노화로만 환원될 수 없으며, 감각적 의존성, 언어·문화적 정체성, 사회적 관계성 등 복합적 맥락 속에서 이해되어야 함을 밝혔다. 이러한 통합적 이해를 바탕으로 실천적·정책적 대응 방안을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to explore how middle-aged Deaf women experience physical changes and construct meaning from those experiences. In-depth interviews were conducted with five Deaf women using sign language. The data were analyzed applying Colaizzi’s method of descriptive phenomenology, resulting in three categories were : “Fragmentation and reconstruction of daily life due to changes in sensory functions”, “Understanding and gradual adaptation to physical pain and menopausal changes”, and “The practice of self-care and structural constraints.” The physical changes experienced by middle-aged Deaf women were perceived not merely as physiological decline, but as profound turning points and ontological crises that disrupted the foundations of daily lives and communication. In response, the participants reconstructed the structure of their lives and actively engaged in self-care practices. Although they have experienced a sense of accomplishment through this process, they also encountered structural barriers embedded in service and support systems predominantly designed for hearing individuals. This study revealed that the physical changes experienced by middle-aged Deaf women cannot be solely attributed to biological aging, but must be understood within a complex context encompassing sensory dependence, linguistic and cultural identity, and social relationships. Based on these insights, practical and political measures were proposed.
