이수지의 그림책『동물원』연구 - 기호학적 관점으로-

국문 초록

본 연구는 그림책작가 이수지가 2004년에 출판한 그림책 『동물원』을 기호학적관점에서 분석 하여 환상과 현실의 경계를 정확하고 재미있게 그렸는지를 확인하고 밝히고자 했다. 그 분석방법은 “기호 사각형”에 작품을 대입하여 주인공 소녀의 행동양상과 의미의 진위를 증명 하였다. 따라서 그레마스의 설화도식4가지 중 주인공의 ‘역량’과 그것이 나타나는 ‘양상’을 중심논의로 삼았다 .그 결과 주인공 소녀가 동물원에서 경험한 환상이 어떻게 현실에서 균형을 이뤘는지 증명이 되었다. 동물들과 뛰어 놀았던 것은 실제이기도하고 환상이기도한데 이 둘의 경계이자 접합지점은 소녀의 신발과 잃어 버렸던 풍선이었다. 독자는 환상과 실제는 현실에 공존하기에 세 인물들 모두에게 사실이 됨을 알 게 된 효과를 증명할 수 있었다. 아울러 이 작품은 작품성이 뛰어났음에도 불구하고 그동안 제대로 된 평가나 언급이 없었던 점도 말했다. 『동물원』은 작가가 그림책에 대한 애정과 열정, 시도를 다양하게 쏟아낸 작품이라고 고백한바 있다. 따라서 이수지의『동물원』을 선정해 작품성을 검증해 보았다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze “The Zoo”, a picture book written by Lee Su-zy and published in 2004, from the semiotic perspective to see if the demarcation of fantasy and reality is described exactly and interestingly. The method of analysis is to verify the heroin's aspect of action and authenticity of meaning by substituting this work into the semiotic rectangle, a tool for verifying the “Semiotic Square”. Therefore, the discussion is focused on the capacity of the main character and the modality which it represent among the four types of Greimas’s Schema of Narrative Story. As a result it was proved how the girl heroin’s experienced fantasy at a zoo achieved a balance in reality. While the fantasy experience that the girl underwent in gamboling with animals is both real and illusory, the demarcation and the connection point are the shoes and the balloon which she lost. It is proved as true that to the girl and animal, the illusion would be a fact and that to the parents, it would be a lie. Furthemore, the effect that readers come to know that it becomes true to all the three characters since the actuality and the fantasy coexist in reality can be verified. It is also indicated that there was no proper evaluation or reference all the while despite excellent literary value of the work. Lee Su-zy mentioned that her love, zest, and trials for picture book were devotedly and diversely attached to “The Zoo”. Thus, “The Zoo” written by Lee Su-zy was selected and its literary value was verified.
