만 3세 유아의 자연물 놀이의 교육적 의미 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 만 3세 유아들의 자연물 놀이의 과정을 알아보고 그 교육적 의미를 탐색하는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 E 병설유치원 사랑반 15명의 유아를 대상으로 질적 연구의 현상학적 방법으로 분석하였다. 이에 수집된 자료의 내용의 의미를 파악하여 개념화하고 핵심 주제어와 에피소드를 재 범주화하여 대주제로 통합하였으며, 약 9개월 동안 주 2∼5회 740장 분량의 사진 자료, 50회 관찰기록, 주간·월간 교육계획을 통해 참여관찰하고 분석하였다. 연구결과, 유아들은 자연물을 발견하고 놀이하는 과정에서 주도적으로 창의적인 놀이 방법을 결정하였고, 협동하며 문제를 해결하는 과정을 통해 자기효능감과 친사회적 행동을 향상시킬 수 있었다. 또한 유아들의 자연물 놀이는 자연친화적인 태도를 기를 수 있는 토대가 되었고, 자연물과 자유롭게 놀이하는 동안 폭넓은 상상력과 창의력을 기르며 긍정적이고 통합적인 사고로 자기 조절력을 키울 수 있어 전인적인 성장·발달에 효과적인 교육 매체가 될 수 있다는 교육적 의미가 있음을 시사한다. 이러한 결과는 유아교육기관에서 자연물과의 놀이를 계획하여 유아의 전인적인 발달에 도움이 될 수 있는 기초자료를 제시하고, 더불어 도시 지역에 위치한 유아교육기관 현장에서도 자연물 놀이가 이루어질 수 있는 유용한 사례가 될 수 있다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the process of play using natural materials among 3-year-old children and explore its educational meaning. To this end, a qualitative phenomenological method was applied to analyze 15 children from the Sarang class of E kindergarten attached to the elementary school. The data collected were conceptualized by understanding the content"s meaning, re-categorized into core keywords and episodes, and then integrated into major themes. Over approximately 9 months, participant observations and analyses were conducted through 740 pieces of photographic data, 50 observation records, and weekly/monthly educational plans, ranging from 2 to 5 times a week. The results indicate that the children determined creative play methods autonomously and improved self-efficacy and prosocial behavior through cooperative problem-solving during their play with natural materials. Moreover, playing with natural materials served as a foundation for fostering a nature-friendly attitude, enhancing a wide imagination and creativity, and promoting positive and integrative thinking, thus contributing to holistic growth and development, suggesting its educational significance. These findings provide foundational data that can help in the holistic development of children in early childhood education institutions by planning play with natural materials, and also offer a useful case that natural material play can be implemented even in urban early childhood education settings, highlighting its significance.
