인물 그림책에 나타난 백매터(backmatter) 특징 연구 : 2015년 이후 Orbis Pictus Award 수상작을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 인물 그림책의 백매터(backmatter)에 나타난 특징과 기능을 살펴보고 교육적 가치와 활용 가능성을 제시하는 데 있다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 2015년 이후 Orbis Pictus Award를 수상한 인물 그림책 총 20권을 연구대상으로 선정하였고, 선행연구에서 제시한 백매터의 종류와 기능을 기준으로 하여 연구대상의 백매터에서 제공하는 내용을 작가, 제작과정, 작품내용, 출판정보 등으로 분석하였다. 백매터의 각 요소는 소제목을 중심으로 분류하였으며, 제목과 요소가 일치하지 않는 경우 기능을 근거로 분류하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 인물 그림책 백매터에 나타난 작가관련 요소는 작가 노트, 그림 작가 노트, 작가 소개 등이었으며, 이들은 인물 그림책의 관점과 주제를 제시하고 전문성을 표현하였다. 둘째, 제작 관련 요소는 참고자료와 감사의 말 등이었으며, 인물 그림책의 진실성과 관련되었다. 셋째, 내용 관련 요소는 부록과 연대기 등이 있으며, 독자에게 더 많은 정보를 제공하여 지식의 확장과 다양한 활동에 도움을 주었다. 마지막으로 출판 관련 요소는 출판정보였으며, 저작권을 비롯한 출판 정보를 제공하고 있었다. 본 연구 결과, 연구대상 인물 그림책의 백매터가 갖는 특징과 기능을 확인 제시함으로써, 유아교육 현장의 교사나 부모들이 ‘좋은’ 인물 그림책을 선정하도록 도우며, 인물 그림책을 다양한 교육 영역으로 확장 적용할 수 있으리라 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics and functions of the backmatter of picture book biographies and to suggest educational values and applicability. To this end, a total of 20 picture books featuring characters that have won the Orbis Pictus Award since 2015 were selected for this study, and the contents provided by the backmatter of the study subject were analyzed as authors, production process, work content, and publication information based on the type and function of the backmatter suggested in previous studies. Each element of the backmatter was classified based on the subheadings, and if the title and element did not match, it was classified based on the function. As a result, first, the author-related elements that appeared in the backmatter of picture book biographies_were author notes, illustrator notes, and author introductions, and they presented the perspective and subject of the picture book biographies and expressed their expertise. Second, production-related elements were reference materials and acknowledgments, and were related to the authenticity of the picture book biographies. Third, content-related elements including appendices and chronicles, and more information were provided to the readers to help expand knowledge and various activities. Finally, the publishing-related element of publication information, including copyright, was provided. As a result of this study, by confirming and presenting the characteristics and functions of the back matter of the picture book biographies studied, we can help teachers and parents in early childhood education fields select "good" picturebook biographies, and can expand and apply character picture books to various educational areas.
