법무부 형정국 발행 월간 『새길』의 매체 전략 연구

국문 초록

본 논문에서는 1948년 4월 창간한 『새길』 창간호와 1953년 발간된 속간호를 중심으로 매체적 특성을 분석하고 잡지의 구성, 필진 등 변화 양상을 고찰함으로써 매체가 지향하는 가치관과 편집 의도 등을 파악하는 데 목적을 두었다. 『새길』은 창간 당시부터 재소자를 위한 잡지로 만들어졌다. 해방 이후 형무소의 열악한 환경 속에 재소자들의 불만과 일탈이 가중되어 가던 시기에 법무부 형정국은 이를 해소하고자 다양한 방법을 고민했으며 그 대안으로 매체 발간을 선택했다. 이에 재소자의 교화를 가장 큰 목적으로 『새길』이 창간하여 형무소에 보급되기 시작했다. 이에 따라 창간호 구성 역시 재소자의 눈높이에 맞게 한글, 한글-한자 혼용, 한자 사용 등 글의 내용과 주제에 따라 취사선택해서 사용하고 있다. 이처럼 해방 정국에서 법무부 교정국이 지향한 행형의 초점은 이념 확립보다는 재소자 교화에 있었음을 알 수 있다. 반면 『새길』 속간호는 다른 양상을 보인다. 한국전쟁으로 인해 교도관의 희생이 컸고, 전국 형무소 시설의 절반 이상이 전쟁으로 파손, 파괴되었다. 그러한 상황에서 속간호의 목차와 필진의 구성, 글과 작품의 세부 내용은 재소자의 의식 개선에 많은 의미를 두고 있다. 전쟁으로 인해 피폐해진 형무소 상황을 타개하기 위한 방법이었다. 그래서 속간호의 필자는 전문 문사 대신에 대부분 형정국 직원, 지역 형무소 직원, 재소자로 구성이 되었다. 직원은 자신들의 지식 지향을 증명하기 좋은 수단이었으며, 재소자 역시 의식의 투철함을 보여줄 수 있는 기회임과 동시에 그러한 검열과 통제를 이탈하고자 하는 내적 욕망도 품고 있음을 보여준다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the characteristics of the media, focusing on the first issue of the 『New Life』 published in April 1948 and the second issue published in 1953, and to understand the values and editorial intentions of the media by examining the changes in the composition and writing of the magazine. It has been made into a magazine for inmates since its inception. At the time when the complaints and deviations of the inmates were increasing in the harsh environment of the prison after liberation, the Ministry of Justice decided to solve various problems and chose to publish the media as an alternative.,Therefore, with the greatest purpose of edification of the inmates, the 『New Life』 began to spread to the prison.,Accordingly, the composition of the first issue is also selected according to the content and theme of the article, such as Hangul, Hangul-Hanja mixed use, and Chinese character use, in accordance with the inmate's eye level.,In this way, it can be seen that the focus of the execution of the Ministry of Justice in the liberation government was on the correction of the inmates rather than the establishment of ideology. On the other hand, 『New Life』 re-publishing issue showed a different aspect. The Korean War caused a great sacrifice of prison guards, and more than half of the prison facilities in the country were damaged and destroyed by war. The intention is the contents of the Inner Nursing, the composition of the writings, and the details of the writings and works. The table of contents covers a variety of issues, but it is practically meaningful to improve the consciousness of the inmates, so the writer of the nursing care is mostly composed of the staff of the prison, the local prison staff, and the inmates instead of the professional texts. The staff was a good way to demonstrate their knowledge orientation, and the inmates were also an opportunity to show their consciousness.
