국문 초록

한국전쟁기 부산은 문화예술 분야에서 한국 문화의 중심지였다. 국악 분야에서 이 시기 부산에서의 활동은 해방 이후 가장 활발한 움직임을 보여준 시기라 할 수 있다. 동래권번과 김동민의 민속무용연구소를 중심으로 한 부산지역 조직은 피란예술인들과 연대하여 지속적인 활동을 전개하였고, 구왕궁아악부를 계승한 국립국악원은 1951년 부산에서 개원하여 강습회와 공연을 통해 일반인들에게는 생소한 궁중음악을 접할 수 있게 했다. 여성국극단들은 장병들을 위무하는 한편 전쟁으로 지친 국민들에게 희망의 메시지를 전했으며 여성국극이 대중적 예술로서 자리매김할 수 있는 발판을 만들었다. 한편 박성옥과 이명철·정상열·최상택, 최선묵 등 피란예술인들은 자신들의 예술적 성취를 계속 이어가면서도 지역예술인들과 교류, 협력하여 전쟁으로 고통받는 아동들과 지역민들에게 예술의 힘으로 새로운 삶을 살 수 있는 용기를 주었고 전시예술의 꽃을 피워냈다. 전쟁의 재난을 피해 국악인들의 대거 이동은 부산의 정치·경제적 변화와 함께 부산의 국악사회와 시민들은 문화적 충격을 경험하게 됐다. 이 시기 부산의 국악사회는 정악, 민속악, 전통무용의 전 분야에서 피란예술인과 부산에서 활동하던 예술인들의 협력과 연대로 새로운 활력을 불러일으키는 이전과는 완전히 다른 국면을 맞이하였다. 한국전쟁기 부산이라는 압축된 시공간은 지역예술가들에게는 자신의 예술세계에 대한 자의식을 가지게 하였으며, 피란예술가들에게는 부산이라는 새로운 공간 속에서 자신들의 예술을 단절 없이 표현할 수 있는 기회를 제공하였다. 또한 이들 간 상호 연대와 협력은 한국 현대예술의 새로운 맹아를 품고 있었으며, 이후 부산 국악사의 연속성을 담보하는 토대로서 작용하게 되었다.

영문 초록

During the Korean War, Busan became the cultural center of Korea in the field of arts and culture. In the realm of traditional Korean music (gugak), the activities in Busan during this period represent the most dynamic movement since liberation. The mass migration of gugak musicians, fleeing the devastation of war, brought cultural shocks to Busan’s gugak community and citizens alongside the city’s political and economic changes. During this time, Busan’s gugak scene entered an entirely new phase, where artists in jeongak (court music), minsokak (folk music), and traditional dance collaborated and united, creating fresh vitality. Local organizations such as the Dongnae Gwŏnbŏn and Kim Dong-min’s Folk Dance Research Institute actively engaged in continuous activities through solidarity with refugee artists. In 1951, the National Gugak Center, which inherited the former Royal Music Institute, was established in Busan, offering training courses and performances that introduced the general public to the unfamiliar sounds of court music. Women’s gukgeuk (female traditional opera troupes) not only consoled soldiers but also delivered messages of hope to a war-weary populace, laying the groundwork for women’s gukgeuk to establish itself as a popular art form. Meanwhile, refugee artists such as Park Seong-ok, Lee Myeong-cheol, Jeong Sang-yeol, Choi Sang-taek, and Choi Seon-muk continued their artistic achievements while also collaborating with local artists. Through their exchanges, they inspired children and residents suffering from the war with the courage to live anew through the power of art, blossoming into the flourishing of wartime arts. The compressed time and space of Busan during the Korean War gave local artists a new sense of identity regarding their artistic world, while providing refugee artists the opportunity to continue expressing their art without rupture in a new space. The mutual solidarity and cooperation between them contained the seeds of modern Korean art and later served as the foundation ensuring the continuity of Busan’s gugak history.
