국문 초록

본 연구는 레비나스의 초월 개념이 어떻게 형성되고 전개되는지를 체계적으로 검토한다. 이를 위해 그의 초기 철학에서 후기 사유에 이르기까지 초월 개념의 발전 과정과 변화양상을 탐구한다. 먼저 레비나스 고유의 초월 개념이 최초로 등장하는 탈출에 관해서 에서 초월의 의미를 해명한다. 이어서 전체성과 무한 에서 제시된 ‘상향초월’이라는독특한 초월 개념과 후기 저술인 존재와 달리 에서 이루어진 초월의 급진화를 분석한다. 또한 기존 연구에서 상대적으로 간과되어 온 초월과 인식가능성 에 나타난 신학적 함의를 담아낸 초월 개념의 의미를 심층적으로 규명한다. 이러한 작업을 통해 본 연구는 레비나스가 존재론적 틀을 벗어나 윤리적 초월을 추구했다는 점을 먼저 확인한다. 더 나아가이러한 초월이 현상의 내재성으로 환원되지 않는 절대적 초월, 즉 무한의 초월이라는 점을 밝히며, 레비나스가 이를 하늘의 윤리이자 지혜인 성스러움으로 간주했다는 점을 논증한다. 결론적으로, 말년의 레비나스에게 초월을 논한다는 것은 하늘의 지혜를 현실에서실현하기 위한 참된 실천이 무엇인지를 탐구하는 갱신된 의미의 신학적 과제라는 점을 확증한다.

영문 초록

This study examines the formation and development of Levinas’s concept of transcendence. It traces the evolution and transformation of this concept from his early philosophy through his later thought. The analysis begins with an elucidation of transcendence in On Escape , where Levinas’s distinctive understanding of transcendence first emerges. It then examines the unique notion of “transacendence” articulated in Totality and Infinity , alongside the radicalization of transcendence in his later work, Otherwise than Being or Beyond Essence . The investigation further provides an in-depth analysis of the theologically inflected concept of transcendence presented in Transcendence and Intelligibility . This reveals that Levinas pursued ethical transcendence as a departure from ontological frameworks. The study demonstrates that such transcendence constitutes an absolute transcendence that is irreducible to phenomenal immanence and argues that he conceived of this transcendence as the sacred, encompassing both heavenly ethics and wisdom. The examination concludes that for the later Levinas, discourse on transcendence represents a renewed theological undertaking: the exploration of authentic praxis for realizing heavenly wisdom on earth.
