국문 초록

본 논문은 자살 유가족을 위한 애도의 방법을 야스퍼스(K. Jaspers)의 ‘세계관’에서 찾고자 한다. 실제로 자살 유가족의 감당하기 힘든 고통은 문화적, 윤리적, 종교적 동기로부터 고착되어 나온 ‘정신’의 문제라는 점에서 철학상담의 관점에서는 ‘주관적 삶의 태도’와 ‘객관적 세계상’이 결합하여 형성된 세계관의 고착이 근본 원인으로 제기될 수 있다. 야스퍼스의 초기 저서인 『세계관의 심리학』은 자살 유가족이 느끼는 수치심과 죄책감의 다양한 감정의 근거를 이해할 수 있는 토대가 될 뿐만 아니라, 자기 성찰을 통한 치유의 가능성을 제공해 줄 수 있다는 점에서 자살 유가족의 세계관 분석에 매우 유용하게 활용될 수 있다. 이 점에 주목하는 본 논문은 전적으로 완전한 세계관의 확립이 가능하지 않음에도 불구하고 특정한 방식의 세계관이 마치 진리인 것처럼 자살유가족을 정신적으로 구속하는 세계관이 어떻게 형성되는지 그 근거를 살펴보고, 오랜세월 구조화되어 자신을 옭아매고 있는 특정한 세계관에서 벗어나 마침내 자유로워지는 정신적 치유가 어떻게 가능한지 그 방안을 철학상담을 통해 모색하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study explores a philosophical counseling approach to mourning for families bereaved by suicide, grounded in Karl Jaspers’ concept of worldview (Weltanschauung). The intense psychological distress experienced by suicide survivors is often rooted in culturally, ethically, and religiously reinforced belief systems. These belief systems, when internalized as absolute truths, form rigid worldviews that constrain emotional processing and healing. Drawing on Jaspers’ early work, Psychology of Worldviews, this paper argues that such suffering arises from the entanglement of subjective attitudes toward life and objective world images, both of which constitute an individual’s worldview. By examining the interplay between subjective “attitudes”(Einstellungen) - represented by personal experience, capacity, and conviction—and objective “world images” (Weltbilder) - perceived as universal truths—this study analyzes the structure and formation of worldviews as defined by the “life of the spirit”(Leben des Geistes). It further investigates how these fixed worldviews develop over time, often reinforcing shame, guilt, and emotional paralysis in bereaved families. Through the lens of philosophical counseling, the paper proposes a path toward liberation: challenging inherited, rigid worldviews surrounding suicide and guiding survivors toward the possibility of a renewed, spiritually grounded, and self-compassionate perspective. Ultimately, this approach aims to foster healing by enabling individuals to transcend limiting beliefs, protect themselves from self-directed emotional violence, and reclaim inner freedom.
