국문 초록

본 연구는 국가의 경제적 자유도에 따라 FDI와 금융발전이 경제성장에 미치는 영향을 국가의 경제발전 수준별로 구분하여 실증 분석하였다. 28개국의 30년간 데이터를 활용해 GMM 분석을 수행한 결과, 경제적 자유는 전반적으로 경제성장에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 선진국에서는 경제적 자유, FDI, 금융시장 발전이 긍정적인 요인이었으며, 금융기관 발전은 오히려 부정적인 영향을 보여 과잉 신용창출의 위험성이 드러났다. 개발도상국은 경제적 자유, 금융기관 발전, FDI 순으로 경제성장에 기여하였으며, 제도개선과 금융중개 기능 강화의 중요성이 나타났다. 하지만 높은 수준의 경제적 자유는 개발도상국에서 금융시장 발전과 FDI의 부정적인 영향을 유발할 수 있으며, 이는 투기자본 유입과 관련된다. 따라서 자본유입에 대한 규제 및 감독 강화가 요구되며, 금융기관 발전은 경제적 자유와 상호작용할 때 긍정적인 효과가 증가하는 반면, 제도적 조절효과는 미미하였다. 정책적으로 개발도상국은 제도의 신뢰성, 자본 형성, FDI 유치 전략이 필요하고, 선진국은 금융기관의 과잉 신용에 대한 거시건전성 관리가 필요하다는 시사점을 제공한다.

영문 초록

This study empirically analyzes how FDI and financial development affect economic growth, depending on the level of economic freedom. Using 30 years of data from 28 countries and applying the GMM method, the study finds that economic freedom generally had a positive impact on growth. In advanced economies, economic freedom, FDI, and financial market development positively contributed to growth, while financial institution development had a negative effect, indicating risks of excessive credit expansion. In developing countries, economic freedom, financial institutions, and FDI supported growth in that order, highlighting the need for institutional reform and stronger financial intermediation. However, high economic freedom may negatively affect FDI and financial market development in developing countries, possibly due to speculative capital inflows. Thus, stronger regulation and supervision of capital inflows are required. While financial institutions benefit more when paired with economic freedom, institutional moderation showed limited effects. Policy implications suggest developing countries should improve institutional trust, capital formation, and FDI strategies, whereas advanced economies should manage macroprudential risks related to credit expansion. These findings offer important implications for tailored policy development by country group.
