다섯수치요약에 근거한 정규성 검정법 제안

국문 초록

정규성 가정에 근거한 다양한 통계적 추론 결과들을 접하다 보면 그 가정의 타당성이 의심스러운 경우들이 가끔 보인다. 시각적 접근 또는 통계적 검정을 통해 정규성 가정의 검토 결과가 제시되었다 하더라도 이상값들의 존재, 선뜻 받아들이기에는 애매한 대칭성, 너무 편평한 또는 뾰족한 단봉구조 등 여러 가지 흔적들로 인해 정규성 가정을 재검토해 보고 싶은 경우들이 있다. 특히 근거자료를 하나라도 더 확보하는 것이 중요한 메타분석에서는 더욱 필요하다. 그러나 원자료가 공개되지 않은 이상 제시된 표본평균과 표본표준편차 정보만으로는 이를 시도해 볼 방법은 지금까지는 없다. 이에 본 연구에서는 원자료는 없지만 표본크기와 함께 다섯수치요약 정보만이라도 주어진 경우라면, 비록 정보량 차이 때문에 효율은 좀 떨어지더라도, 어느 정도 실용성 있는 정규성 검정법이 있을 것이라는 확신 하에 그 방법을 생각해내고 이를 제안한다. 컴퓨터 모의실험을 통해 Shapiro-Wilk의 정규성 검정법과 그 성능을 비교해 본 결과 적중률의 입장에서 검정능력은 물론 떨어졌다. 이는 제공된 정보량의 차이를 생각하면 당연한 결과이다. 그러나 그 검정능력이 대부분의 경우들에서 차이가 별로 크지 않거나 비슷했다는 점이 매우 고무적이라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

When encountering various statistical inference results based on the assumption of normality, there are cases where the validity of the assumption is questionable. Even if the results of examining the assumption of normality are presented through a visual approach or statistical testing, there are cases where the assumption of normality is reexamined due to various traces such as the presence of outliers, ambiguous symmetry that is difficult to readily accept, and a unimodal structure that is too flat or sharp. This is especially necessary in meta-analysis, where securing at least one more piece of supporting data is important. However, there is no way to try this with only the sample mean and sample standard deviation information provided unless the original data is disclosed. In this study, we propose a method based on the belief that there will be a normality test that is somewhat practical, even if the efficiency is somewhat low due to the difference in the amount of information, if only the sample size and the five-digit summary information are given, even if the raw data are not available. When we compared its performance with the Shapiro-Wilk normality test through a computer simulation, the test ability in terms of the hit rate was lower. However, this is a natural result considering the difference in the amount of information provided, and it is very encouraging that the test ability was not very different or similar in most cases.
