한국 문화 교육을 위한 ‘누워서 떡 먹기’의 문화 요소 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 속담 ‘누워서 떡 먹기’의 형성과 변화 과정을 살피고, 비유 구조를 분석하여 그 속에 담긴 문화 요소를 추출하였다. 그리고 이를 활용하여 한국 문화를 교육하기 위한 방안을 제안하였다. ‘누워서 떡 먹기’는 원래 ‘누워서 떡을 먹으면 콩고물이 떨어진다’는형태로 통용되다가 현재의 형태로 변화되었다. 속담에서 은유적으로 표현된 ‘떡’과 ‘누워서 먹는’ 행동에는 우리 민족의 음식 문화, 의례 문화, 좌식 생활 문화 등 다양한 문화 요소가 내포되어 있었다. 속담의 환유적 의미와 관련하여 속담이 통용되는 사회 현실을 살펴보면 원래의 속담은 농업 중심의 노동 기반 사회, 신분제 사회 등과 밀접한 관련을지니고 있었다. 그러다 ‘누워서 떡 먹기’로 형태가 변하면서 의미도 달라지게 되는데 이는 신분제도가 사라지고 떡이 일상화된 사회 맥락과인접해 있음을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으로 속담에서 추출한 다양한 문화 요소들을 활용하여 Moran 의 문화 학습 단계에 따라 문화 수업을 진행하는 방안을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study examined the process of the formation and change of the proverb ‘누워서 떡 먹기(Eating a rice cake while lying down)’ by analyzing the figurative structure before then extracting the cultural elements contained within it. This study suggests measures for educating on aspects of Korean culture. The proverb ‘누워서 떡 먹기(Eating a rice cake while lying down)’ was originally used in the form of ‘If you eat a rice cake while lying down, the powdered soybean would fall down’. The ‘rice cake’ and the action of ‘eating while lying down’, which is metaphorically expressed in the proverb, implies various cultural elements, such as food culture, ritual culture, and sedentary life culture of Korean people. Examining the social reality wherein the proverb is used in relation to the metonymic meanings of proverb, the original proverb was closely related to an agriculture-centered, labor-based, hierarchical society. After the form was changed to ‘Eating a rice cake while lying down’, the meaning also changed, reflecting the social context of routinized rice cake eating after the status system disappeared. Lastly, this study suggested the measures for proceeding a culture class according to Moran’s culture learning steps, by using various cultural elements extracted from the proverb.
