영문 초록

This study examines the text structure of North Korean Rodong Sinmun reporting articles. To do so, we analyzed the communicative functions and macro- and micro-structures of Rodong Sinmun and examined their characteristics. The study revealed the following characteristics of the organization of Rodong Sinmun texts. First, the titles of news articles often ended with noun phrases, but the titles of content articles related to the North Korean leader were presented as complete sentences. This phenomenon of presenting newspaper headlines in complete sentences shows that the Rodong Sinmun is treating North Korea's supreme leader as a very important topic. Another peculiarity is that the North Korean leader's speech is sometimes quoted in the lead of the article. Quoting the Supreme Leader in the introduction of a newspaper article can be interpreted as emphasizing the authority of the Supreme Leader. Second, the North Korean Rodong Sinmun article was characterized by the absence of Text-structure markers, the absence of anaphoric expressions, and the repeated use of the same sentence endings. The academic significance of this study lies in the fact that it examines the reporting articles of Rodong Sinmun from a textual linguistics perspective. Furthermore, this study can serve as a basis for examining the differences between South Korean and North Korean newspaper articles from a textual linguistics perspective.
