교육분야 보편적 학습 설계(UDL) 연구에 대한 서술적 문헌 고찰

국문 초록

이 연구는 국내 교육분야에서의 보편적 학습 설계(Universal Design for Learning 이하 ‘UDL’)의 영향을 탐구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 주제범위 중심의 서술적 문헌 고찰을 통해 연구를 수행하였다. 2024년까지 출판된 학술지 문헌을 국내 학술연구정보서비스의 데이터베이스에서 검색하였고, 최종적으로 125편의 논문이 분석에 포함되었다. 분석은 주제범위 중심의 서술적 문헌 고찰에 따라 나누어진 ‘학교교육’, ‘교육자료’, ‘교사인식 및 학교 밖 교육’의 세 가지 측면에서 문헌을 분석하고 검토하였다. 국내 교육분야에서의 UDL 문헌의 주제 특징을 살펴보면, ‘학교교육’ 측면에서는 UDL을 모든 학생의 수업 참여를 위한 학교차원의 실질적인 지원으로 다루기보다는 교수·학습 방법 및 교육과정에서 교육의 효과를 높이는데 집중되어 있는 것으로 나타났다. ‘교육자료’ 측면의 문헌들은 국내 교육환경에 적합하게 개선된 UDL 가이드라인을 디지털 형태의 교육자료에 적용할 필요성을 강조하였으나, 실제 교육부 및 시·도교육청의 교육 정책 및 개발 사업에서는 형식적으로만 가이드라인을 적용할 뿐이라고 지적하였다. 마지막으로 ‘교사인식 및 학교 밖 교육’ 측면에서는 학교교육과 마찬가지로 UDL이 국내 교육환경 구축 및 지원을 다루기보다는 다양한 교육 분야에서 교수자의 인식을 보편적 관점으로 확장하기 위한 원리나 철학적 기초를 구성하는 데 주로 활용하고 있었다. 결론적으로 향후 국내 교육분야에서의 UDL 관련 연구는 우리나라의 포용적 교육 실현하기 위해 모든 학생을 위한 교육 환경의 실질적인 변화를 촉진할 수 있는 보다 구체적인 교육 정책 및 법 개정 추진에도 관점을 집중시킬 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore the impact of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in the Korean education sector. To achieve this, a descriptive literature review based on thematic scope was conducted. Academic journal articles published up to 2024 were retrieved from the database of the Korean Academic Research Information Platforms, and a total of 125 papers were included in the final analysis. The analysis was carried out across three dimensions defined by the thematic scope: “school education,” “educational materials,” and “teacher perception and out-of-school education”. Examining the thematic characteristics of UDL literature in Korean education: In the “school education” dimension, UDL was found to focus more on enhancing the effectiveness of teaching methods and curriculum rather than being addressed as a practical, school-wide support system to promote participation for all students. Literature on “educational materials” emphasized the need to apply UDL guidelines—adapted to the Korean educational context—to digital learning resources. However, it was pointed out that the Ministry of Education and local education offices tend to apply these guidelines only superficially in their policies and development projects. - In the “teacher perception and out-of-school education” dimension, similar to school education, UDL was primarily used as a principle or philosophical foundation to broaden educators’ perspectives across various educational fields, rather than as a tool to build and support inclusive learning environments. In conclusion, future UDL-related research in Korea should focus more on promoting substantial changes in educational environments for all students. It suggests the need to pursue more concrete educational policies and legal reforms to realize inclusive education in practice.
