고경력 영아교사가 느끼는 보람과 어려움

국문 초록

본 연구는 고경력 영아교사가 영아교사로 살아오며 경험한 어려움과 보람에 대해 알아보기 위해 진행되었다. 2019년 2월부터 2019년 4월까지 강원도 W시 소재 어린이집 만 1∼2세 영아반 교사 중 6년 6개월∼25년 경력의 영아교사 10명을 대상으로 개별 대면 면담과 추가 전화 면담의 형태로 심층면담이 이루어졌고, 면담에서 느낀 연구자의 감정이나 생각에 관한 연구자 저널이 작성되었다. 수집된 자료를 분석한 결과, 고경력 영아교사가 느끼는 보람으로는 ‘영아보육 전문가로의 성장, 행복을 주는 영아들, 영아반 베테랑 선생님, 힘이 되는 원장님과 동료 교사’로 나타났으며, 고경력 영아교사가 느끼는 어려움으로는 ‘흔들리는 정체성, 교사의 손길이 더 필요한 영아들, 무엇이든 척척, 혼자서 두 몫을 감당해야하는 힘겨움, 내게도 선택권이 있었으면, 경력이 오히려 짐’으로 나타났다. 영아보육의 질적 수준을 높이기 위해서는 영아교사 스스로 전문가라는 굳건한 자기인식이 필요하며, 정부의 정책적 지원과 사회적 인식의 변화도 필요하다.

영문 초록

This study was conducted to find out the difficulties and rewards that highly experienced infant and toddler teachers undergo in their professional lives. From February 2019 to April 2019, in-depth interviews were held with 10 teachers in 1 to 2-year-old infant classes at day care centers in W city, Gangwon province, in the form of individual face-to-face meetings and additional telephone interviews. The interviewees had six and a half years to 25 years of work experience. After each interview, the researcher’s feelings or thoughts during the interview were recorded in a form of journal. Qualitative analysis results show that the rewards of highly experienced infant and toddler teachers were ‘growth as an infant care expert, infants who make them feel happy, recognition as an infant class veteran teacher, and helpful director and fellow teachers.’ The difficulties of highly experienced infant and toddler teachers were ‘identity crises, infants who need more help from teachers, excessive expectations of career, hardships of having to take on two roles at once, having no choices about class, and long careers being a burden.’ Torder to enhance the quality of infant care, infant and toddler teachers themselves need a strong self-awareness as an expert, and government policy support and social awareness changes are also needed.
