고령화 사회 그림책에 재현된 노인 정체성

국문 초록

한국 사회는 빠르게 고령화 사회로 진입하고 있으며 이에 본 연구는 그림책에서 재현된 노인들의 정체성을 분석하고자 한다. 그림책에 등장하는 노인들의 변화된 정체성은 무엇이며, 노인을 둘러싼 사회적 관계에서 그들은 어떠한 존재이고, 사회적 관계는 정체성 형성에 어떻게 작용하는지를 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 학교에 진학, 직업, 봉사활동 등 자신의 삶을 주체적으로 살아가고 있는 노인이 등장한 그림책 10권을 선정하여 질적 내용분석을 시행하였다. 연구결과, 첫째 그림책에 나타난 변화된 노인 정체성은 새로운 삶을 꿈꾸는 존재(나는 1학년 학생, 꿈꾸는 도전자, 새로운 삶에 대한 희망자), 일하는 노동자(가게 운영하는 노인, 일하는 직장인)로 나타났다. 둘째, 그림책에서 노인들은 사회적 관계를 맺으며 자신의 정체성을 형성하는 것으로 나타났다. 노인들은 가족 외 다른 사람들과 관계 맺기를 하는데 이때 봉사자와 상담자 역할을 하였고, 주변 아이들과 놀아주며 관계를 맺었다. 가족과 관계 맺기의 경우 가족으로부터 인정과 지지, 가족으로부터 소외를 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 고령화된 사회에서 그림책은 노인에 대한 다각적인 모습을 제시할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The aim of this research was to analyze the elderly identity in picture books because Korea faces a rapidly aging society. This study examined what is the changed identity of elderly people in picture books, what exists in the social relations surrounding the elderly and what is the effect of social support on the identity of the elderly. The data were collected from 10 picture books and analyzed according to qualitative content analysis. The results are presented below. First, the elderly’s identities of change were as follows. The changed old identity in a picture book is to dream of a new life (1) being student at elementary school (2) challenger for dream and wisher of new life. Also, it turned out to be a working worker. Second, the elderly’s identities through the social support were as follows: The elderly people have relationships with other people as well as their families. At this time, they acted as volunteers and counselors and as people who play with children. In the case of the family relationship, it was found that they experienced support and recognition from the family, but they also they alienation from the family. Based on these results in this study, it is suggested that picture books need to present diverse aspects of the elderly in an aging society.
