점토놀이를 통한 2세 영아의 수학적 탐구경험과 교육적 의미 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 2세 영아들이 점토 놀이를 통해 어떠한 수학적 탐구 경험을 하는지를 탐색하고자 2013년4월부터 6월까지 2세 영아 8명의 점토놀이 상황을 참여 관찰하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 결과 2세 영아들은 점토놀이를 통하여 '특별한 의미를 가진 '4'와 큰 수인 '많이''와 같은 수에 대한 기초적 이해의 모습을, '안에·밑으로, 굴러가면 동그라미·길면 뱀'과 같은 공간과 도형에 대한인식하기, '뭉치면 '커지고', 친구보다 '더 길고'의 차이에 관심가지기, '동작과 소리의 '무한 반복''에서 찾을 수 있는 규칙성에 관심 가지기, 마지막으로 ''색'과 '쓰임'으로 나누기'의 구분하기에 대한 수학적 탐구 경험을 하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 이러한 과정을 통하여 '놀이를 통해 수학적 지식에 친숙해지기, 자유로운 조작으로 인한 수학적 개념 경험하기, 풍부한 의사소통으로 수학적 경험 확장하기'의 교육적 의미를 찾을 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the mathematical inquiry experience of two-year-old toddlers and educational meaning. Clay play was utilized in this study, which is one of the excellent mathematical materials that toddlers can touch and handle without any restraints and is quite possible to function as a medium. For the study, the data was collected during 18 times of participated observation and discussion with the lead teacher of 2-year-old toddlers. As a result of this study, mathematics experiences and educational meanings found: First, while the two-year-olds engaged in clay play, they acquired diverse experience in understanding of quantity, spaces/diagrams, differences, simple regularity and dividing, which belonged to the mathematical inquiry section of the standard child-care curriculum. Second, as for educational significance of their mathematical inquiry experience through clay play, they got familiar with mathematics as they gained the mathematical knowledge, and their experience of freely making changes to clay using the unique characteristics of it developed into the mathematical experience. The toddlers were competent mathematicians who had their own mathematical inquiry process skills and their own sense of the mathematics and did inquiry activities positively, and interaction with peers and appropriate intervention by their teacher served as catalysts in stirring up their mathematical communication and the mathematical inquiry. Thus, clay play could be said to be one of valuable, useful materials to enrich the mathematical inquiry experience of toddlers.
