글 없는 그림책 「파도야 놀자」에 대한 만3, 4, 5세 유아의 읽기 반응 분석

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 글 없는 그림책에 대한 유아들의 읽기 반응을 살펴보고 글 없는 그림책이 유아의 교육과 놀이를 위한 개방적 자료가 될 수 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. D시의 A유치원에 재원 중인 만3, 4, 5세 학급의 유아 18명을 대상으로 이수지 작가의 ｢파도야 놀자｣그림책 읽기 반응에 대한 자료를 수집하였다. 연구에 참여한 유아들은 자발적으로 ｢파도야 놀자｣그림책에 관심을 보인 유아들이었다. 유아들의 언어적 반응과 함께 손짓, 행동, 표정, 시선 등의 자료를 수집하였다. 자료분석은 김영천(2016)에 의거하여 범주화하였고 연구자들 간 지속적으로 해석의 과정을 공유하고 구성원 검토를 반복하여 연구의 타당성을 높이고자 하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 유아들은 글 없는 그림책의 그림을 자신만의 다양한 방법으로 표상하며 읽었고 등장인물과 배경과 관련하여 펼쳐진 그림 장면에 없는 이야기를 구성해나가는 능력을 보였다. 또한 2차원의 정지된 그림을 보며 3차원 공간 내 움직임이 있는 이야기로 생동감 있게 반응하였다. 둘째, 만3세 유아는 전체적 구조 이해보다 단편적인 그림 읽기를 하는 반면, 만4, 5세 유아들은 등장인물의 다양한 입장과 전체 줄거리 맥락의 연속성을 이해하는 것으로 나타났다. 유아들은 글 없는 그림책을 통해 무한한 상상의 세계와 실제 경험이 담긴 현실 세계를 넘나들며 풍요로운 반응을 보였다. 본 연구는 글 없는 그림책이 만3, 4, 5세 전 연령의 유아들에게 효과적인 교육매체임과 동시에 개방적인 놀이자료임을 확인하였다는 데에 의의가 있으며, 글 없는 그림책이 놀이지원 자료로서 적극 활용 가능함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

In this study, the reading reactions of infants to picture books without writing were examined. Data on the reading response to Lee Soo-Ji's "Wave" picture book were collected from 18 children in classes aged 3, 4, and 5 years who were enrolled in A kindergarten in D city. The young children who participated in this study were children who voluntarily showed interest in the picture book “Wave.” Data such as hand gestures, actions, facial expressions, and gazes were collected along with the verbal reactions of young children. Data analysis was categorized based on Kim Young-Cheon (2016), and the validity of this study was increased by continuously sharing the process of interpretation among researchers and repeating member reviews. As a result of this study, first, young children read the pictures of picture books without writing in their own various ways and showed the ability to compose stories that were not in the unfolding picture scene in relation to the characters and background. In addition, while looking at the two-dimensional still picture, the children responded vividly with a story with movement in three-dimensional space. Second, 3-year-old children read fragmentary pictures rather than understanding the overall structure, while 4-and 5-year-old children understood the character's various positions and the continuity of the entire plot context. Through picture books without writing, young children showed rich reactions across an infinite imaginary world and the real world containing real experiences. The results of this study show that picture books without writing are both effective educational media and open-play materials for young children.
