내러티브의 종교적 차원

국문 초록

이야기 또는 이야기하는 행위를 뜻하는 내러티브는 오늘날 흔히 문학이론이나 질적연구 방법론의 관점에서 다루어지고 있지만, 그것은 인간의 경험 그 자체를 드러내는 이론적 개념으로 해석될 가능성이 있다. 리쾨르는 아우구스티누스의 시간이론과 아리스토텔레스의 내러티브 이론을 결합하여 내러티브가 경험의 근본적인 원천이 된다는 점을 밝히고 있다. 더 나아가 칸트의 도식론에 비추어 보면, 내러티브는 인간 경험과 사실상 분리되어 존재하면서 이미 일어난 경험을 사후에 기술하는 이야기가 아니라, 인간에게 경험이라는 것이 일어나려고 하면 인간 내면에 갖추어져 있다고 볼 수밖에 없는 경험의 논리적 형식으로서의 의미를 가지는 이야기이다. 이 때, 내러티브는 경험의 사상에 종합적 통일성을 부여함으로써 하나의 전체로서의 경험을 가능하게 하는 순수주관성의 역할을 의미하며, 이와 같이 내러티브가 나타내는 선험적 차원은 우리에게 인식의 신적, 종교적 차원을 보여준다. 이러한 관점에서 내러티브의 개념을 이해할 때, 그것은 이런저런 이야기가 아닌 인식 그 자체를 가능하게 하는 힘을 가진 이야기로 해석될 수 있으며, 그것은 경험적 차원을 넘어서는 형이상학적 차원으로서의 인간 형성에 영향을 미치는 이야기로 해석될 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to interpret ‘narrative’ as an epistemological concept. In a contemporary studies, this concept is treated as s kind of literature theory or methodology like ‘narrative inquiry’. But narrative merely is not a kind of story but a fundamental origin of experience itself. Ricoeur tried to reveal that human cannot experience anything without narrative through combining Augustine’s theory of time and Aristotle’s theory of narrative. In his theory, narrative is elucidated by muthos and mimesis and human experience only can occur when ‘muthos’ organize the events and ‘mimesis’ represents human action. In this point of view, narrative cannot be understood a certain kind of story or plot. It is a form of experience. Obviously, this is derived from Kantian concept ‘scheme’, i.e. an ability of integration in human mind. Kant’s transcendental philosophy tells us that experience can occur when scheme integrates the intuitions of objects. And this scheme only can be interpreted as a transcendental form of knowledge. Based on this idea, Ricoeur founded his text theory which shows the way of experience through interpretation of text. This interpretation of narrative shows us it must be thought as a crucial concept of epistemology. Narrative is a story which can occur human experience itself and it can lead us a transcendental aspect of human mind, i. e. a religious aspect of mind.
