국문 초록

본 논문은 기후위기로 인한 비인간종의 고통을 마주하기 위한 신학적 시도의 결과다. 세상의 고통을 ‘죄’의 관점에서 접근해 온 전통 기독교 신학은 억압자·가해자의 회개와 구원에 초점을 맞춘 신학 체계를 형성했다. 이로 인해, 피해자의 구체적 고통은 부차적인 사안으로 치부되었고, 그들의 고통을 담아낼 신학적 개념은 부재했다. 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위해 민중신학은 한(恨)의 개념을 도입했다. 한은 피해의 직접적 당사자인 민중의 고통을 표현하는 응축된 감정이자, 정서다. 한의 신학적 도입은 민중의 고통을 신학의 중심에 놓으려는 급진적 변화의 시도였다. 그러나 민중신학의 한 개념은 문학적 서사에 기초한 인간의 감정에 제한되었으며, 그 대응 역시 ‘대언’이라는 언어 상징적 체계를 넘어서지 못한다는 한계를 보인다. 따라서, 본 논문은 한을 정동의 측면으로 재해석하여 비인간종의 고통을 마주할 수 있는 신학적 개념을 구축하고자 했다. 인지적 정의와 언어적 표상을 넘어서는 감응의 에너지로서의 정동은, 비인간종의 고통을 언어적 대변 없이 직접적으로 마주할 통로로 작용할 수 있다. 또한, 정동의 페이션시(patiency)를 통해 비인간 존재의 감수가 단지 수동적 피해에 그치지 않고, 현재의 세계에 작용하는 힘으로 이해될 수 있음을 논증하였다. 비인간종의 고통은 기후위기를 극복할 윤리적 요청이자, 변화의 힘으로 재해석될 필요가 있다. 마지막으로 본 논문은 레비나스의 얼굴 개념을 확장하여, 형태와 언어를 지니지 못한 비인간종의 침묵과 마주하는 신학적 감응의 윤리를 모색했다. 이는 기후위기로 인한 멸종과 소멸의 위기 앞에서 신학이 응답해야 할 새로운 과제이자, 비인간종의 고통에 대한 신학적 책임을 성찰하는 시도로서의 의의를 가진다. 이제 신학은 ‘한의 정동’으로 오시는 하나님과 마주하는 시대적 책임을 감당해야 한다.

영문 초록

This study is the result of a theological attempt to engage with the suffering of non-human beings caused by the climate crisis. Traditional Christian theology has approached the suffering of the world primarily from the perspective of “sin,” forming a theological framework centered on the repentance and salvation of oppressors and perpetrators. Consequently, the concrete pain of victims has been relegated to a secondary issue, lacking theological concepts capable of encompassing their experiences. To overcome these limitations, Minjung theology introduced the notion of han(恨). Han is an intense, condensed emotion that expresses the suffering of the people directly subjected to harm, and its theological adoption was a radical attempt to center their pain within theology. However, the concept of han in Minjung theology remained confined to the human sphere, grounded in literary narratives and symbolic representation, which did not transcend the limitations of “speaking for” through language. Therefore, this paper seeks to reinterpret han in terms of affect, to develop a theological framework capable of responding to the suffering of non-human beings. As an energy of resonance that exceeds cognitive understanding and linguistic representation, affect provides a way to encounter the suffering of non-human life without relying on verbal mediation. Furthermore, through the concept of patiency, this study argues that the affective receptivity of non-human beings should not be seen merely as passive victimhood but as an active force shaping the present world. The suffering of non-human beings needs to be reinterpreted as both an ethical demand and a transformative power that challenges humanity to respond to the climate crisis. Finally, this paper extends Emmanuel Levinas’s concept of the “face” to explore a theological ethic of affective attunement that engages the silent presence of non-human beings who lack form and language. This approach constitutes a new task for theology in the face of extinction and collapse and serves as a reflective endeavor to acknowledge the theological responsibility toward their suffering. Ultimately, theology must bear the historical responsibility of encountering God who comes in the affect of han.
