국문 초록

본 논문은 역대상 6장에 수록된 레위인 족보를 중심으로 역대기 저자의 역사 재구성 방식과 그 안에 담긴 신학적이고 수사적인 의도를 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 역대기는 단순한 역사 서술의 반복이 아닌 바벨론 포로기 이후 귀환 공동체의 정체성 재정립과 신앙적 재건을 위한 역대기 저자의 문학적이고, 신학적인 담론으로 이해되어야 한다. 그 가운데 특히 역대상 6장은 전체 족보 구조 속에서도 독립적이고도 중핵적인 위치를 차지하며, 단순한 혈연 계보를 넘어선 신학적 목적과 그 의미를 담고 있다. 본 논문은 레위인의 족보를 문학적 구조, 기능적 구분, 족보 유형(분파형·일직선형), 병렬 대조 방식 등을 중심으로 분석하면서, 윌슨(R. R. Wilson)의 족보 이론을 적용하여 복합적 구조와 의도적 배열을 해석의 틀로 삼는다. 이를 통해 족보는 혈연의 나열이 아니라, 공동체 질서를 수립하고 정당화하는 신학적 수사 장치로 기능함을 분석한다. 특히 6장 48-49절에 나타나는 병렬 구조는 ‘형제 레위인들’과 ‘아론과 그의 자손’의 역할을 대칭적으로 나타내며, 제사장과 레위인의 기능적 차이를 인정하되 위계적 서열보다는 상호 보완적 관계로 서술한다. 역대기 저자는 레위인의 족보를 통해 다윗에 의해 임명된 찬양자들, 성전 봉사자들, 그리고 모세 전통에 따라 임명된 레위인까지 모두 성전 제의의 다양한 기능을 통합적으로 수행하는 존재로 묘사한다. 이는 제사장 중심 체제보다는 레위 공동체 전체를 주체적 사제 집단으로 부각시키려는 전략으로, 에스겔 44장의 계층적 이해와 뚜렷이 대조된다. 나아가 사무엘의 레위 계보로의 삽입, 여호수아 21장을 따른 성읍 분배 기술, 레위인의 행정·재판 역할 등은 레위인을 성소 내 보조자로 제한하지 않고 공동체 전반의 사회질서를 책임지는 중재자로 제시한다. 역대기 저자는 귀환 공동체의 현실 속에서 레위인을 제의와 공동체 회복의 중심축으로 새롭게 자리매김하며, ‘형제’라는 환유적, 수사적 언어를 통해 포로기 이후 공동체의 통합과 사제 집단의 이데올로기를 정당화한다.

영문 초록

The genealogy of the Levites in 1 Chronicles 6 goes beyond a simple genealogical arrangement and intensively demonstrates the literary and theological plan of the author of Chronicles to theologically reconstruct the ceremonial order and identity of the community after the exile. This paper analyzes the genealogy of the Levites by focusing on its literary structure, functional division, genealogy type (branchial/linear), and parallel contrast method, and applies R. R. Wilson’s genealogy theory to interpret its complex structure and intentional arrangement as a framework. Through this, it analyzes that the genealogy is not a listing of blood relations, but rather a theological rhetorical device that establishes and justifies the community order. In particular, the parallel structure in verses 48-49 of chapter 6 symmetrically represents the roles of ‘brother Levites’ and ‘Aaron and his descendants,’ acknowledging the functional differences between priests and Levites but describing them as complementary rather than hierarchical. The author of Chronicles describes the Levites, including the worshippers appointed by David, the temple servants, and the Levites appointed according to the Mosaic tradition, as beings who integrated the various functions of the temple ritual. This is a strategy to highlight the entire Levitical community as a group of priests rather than a priest-centered system, and it stands in sharp contrast to the hierarchical understanding of Ezekiel 44. Furthermore, the insertion of Samuel into the Levitical genealogy, the description of the distribution of cities according to Joshua 21, and the administrative and judicial roles of the Levites do not limit the Levites to assistants in the sanctuary, but present them as mediators responsible for the social order of the entire community. The author of Chronicles repositions the Levites as the central axis of the ritual and community restoration in the reality of the returned community, and justifies the integration of the community and the ideology of the priestly group after the exile through the metonymic and rhetorical language of ‘brothers.’
