정신요양시설 종사자의 연관낙인이 입소생활인의 자기낙인과 서비스 이용에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

상징적 상호작용주의에 따르면 낙인받는 대상과 밀접한 관계를 맺는 사람들도 유사한 낙인을 경험할 수 있으며 이를 연관낙인이라고 한다. 정신건강영역의 종사자들은 정신장애인에 대한 부정적인 낙인으로 인해 연관낙인을경험할 수 있는데, 종사자의 연관낙인은 정신장애인의 자기낙인, 서비스 이용에 부정적인 영향을 준다. 이러한 관계가 정신요양시설의 종사자와 입소생활인에게도 나타나는지 탐색적으로 파악하기 위해 50개 정신요양시설의종사자 808명과 입소생활인 1,164명의 자료를 활용하여 위계선형모형 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 조직수준에서 종사자의 연관낙인 수준이 큰 정신요양시설일수록 입소생활인의 자기낙인 수준이 증가하고, 서비스 이용은 감소하였다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 종사자의 연관낙인과 관련한 실천적함의를 논의하였다.

영문 초록

According to symbolic interactionism, individuals who have close relationships with stigmatized persons may experience similar stigma, known as associative stigma. Mental health professionals (MHPs) may experience associative stigma due to the negative societal perceptions of individuals with mental illness (MI), which can adversely affect not only the MIs' self-stigma but also their utilization of mental health services. To examine whether these dynamics are observed among MHPs and MIs in long-term care mental institutions (LCMIs), I conducted a Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM) analysis using data from 808 MHPs and 1,164 MIs across 50 LCMIs. The results indicated that higher levels of associative stigma among MHPs at the organizational level were significantly associated with increased self-stigma and reduced service utilization among MIs. Based on these findings, I discuss practical implications for reducing associative stigma among MHPs.
