국문 초록

본 연구는 사회적 무질서가 범죄두려움에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 이 과정에서 집합효율성이 조절 변수로서 어떠한 역할을 수행하는지를 실증적으로 검토하였다. 특히, 집합효율성이 수행하는 조절 효과가 일정 수준에서 어떻게 변화하는지를 중점적으로 분석하였다. 연구자료로는 ｢2020 전국범죄피해조사｣ 데이터를 활용하였으며, 복합표본 설계를 반영한 다중회귀분석과 상호작용항을 포함한 조절효과 분석을 수행 하였다. 분석 결과, 사회적 무질서 수준이 높을수록 범죄두려움이 유의미하게 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며, 집합효율성은 일정 수준 이하에서는 범죄두려움을 완화하지 못하고 오히려 증폭시킬 가능성이 확인되었다. 또한 집합효율성은 사회적 무질서와 범죄두려움 간의 관계를 조절하는 과정에서 그 효과가 비선형적으로 변화하는 양상을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 집합효율성이 단순한 보호 요인이 아니라, 수준과 맥락에 따라 복합적으로 작용할 수 있음을 시사한다. 본 연구는 범죄두려움 완화를 위한 정책 수립 시, 공동체 역량 강화를 단순한 유대감 형성 차원을 넘어 임계수준 이상의 결속과 통제력 확보로 접근해야 함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study empirically examines the impact of social disorder on fear of crime and investigates the moderating role of collective efficacy in this relationship. In particular, the study focuses on analyzing the nonlinear characteristics of collective efficacy, exploring how its effects vary depending on its level. Data were drawn from the 2020 Korea Crime Victim Survey, and multiple regression analyses reflecting a complex sampling design were conducted, including interaction terms to test moderating effects. The results indicate that higher levels of social disorder significantly increase fear of crime. Moreover, collective efficacy, when below a certain threshold, fails to mitigate fear of crime and may even amplify it. Additionally, the moderating effect of collective efficacy on the relationship between social disorder and fear of crime demonstrated nonlinear patterns. These findings suggest that collective efficacy does not function solely as a protective factor but operates in a complex manner depending on its level and social context. This study emphasizes that policies aimed at reducing fear of crime should focus on strengthening community capacity beyond simple social cohesion, ensuring sufficient levels of collective efficacy through robust social ties and informal control mechanisms.
