국문 초록

본고는 갑주의 제작 기술을 통해 생산 체계를 복원해보고 이를 통해 신라 갑주의 특징과 의미를 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구 대상인 갑주는 삼국시대 금속 제품 연구에서 중요한 위치를 차지하지만, 구조·복원·변화상 위주로만 연구가 진행되었다. 특히, 신라 갑주에 대한 연구는 1980년대 이후 지속적인 연구가 진행되었지만, 삼국시대의 대표 연구 분야인 토기 연구에 비하면 미흡한 부분이 많다. 토기 연구는 제작 기술~정치·사회사적 역사상에 대한 해석에 이르기까지 활용되었지만, 갑주 연구는 중요도에 비해 학계의 관심이 적었던 탓이 크다. 최근 갑주를 소재로 삼아 의례적인 부분을 비롯해 고대사회의 일면을 적극적으로 해석하려는 다양한 시도가 제기되고 있어 고무적이다. 이러한 흐름 속에서 유관 연구를 진전시키려면, 갑주의 특징·발달·변화상 등과 고대 사회의 변화를 설명하기 위한 노력이 다양한 주제와 방법론으로 나타날 필요가 있다. 더욱이 갑주는 마구와 함께 고대의 제작 기술·기술 수준과 이에 따른 문화상의 변화를 가장 잘 보여주는 유물이다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 신라의 갑주를 주요 소재로 삼아, 신라의 갑주 제작 기술·양식 등을 토대로 신라의 갑주 생산 방식과 배포 범위 등을 정리하여, 신라 갑주 생산 체계의 일면을 살펴보았다. 특히 마구를 비롯한 금공품에서 신라 지방 생산의 가능성과 그 의미를 거론한 사례 연구처럼 신라의 중앙과 지방에 대한 갑주 생산의 차이점도 다루어 보았다. 아울러 이에 대한 논의의 구체성을 확보하기 위하여, 기존에 많은 논의가 이루어졌던 가야 갑주와의 비교도 검토하였다. 이를 통해 신라의 국가 발달과정에서 신라 갑주의 정치사회사적 의미를 풀이하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to reconstruct the production system of armor through manufacturing techniques and examine the characteristics and significance of Silla armor. Although armor occupies an important position in the study of metallic artifacts from the Three Kingdoms period, research has primarily focused on structure, restoration, and transformational aspects. In particular, while research on Silla armor has been conducted continuously since the 1980s, it remains insufficient compared to pottery studies. Pottery research has been utilized from manufacturing techniques to interpretations of political and social historical contexts, but armor research has received relatively little academic attention despite its importance. Recently, various attempts to actively interpret aspects of ancient society, including ceremonial elements, using armor as subject matter have been proposed, which is encouraging. Within this trend, to advance related research, efforts to explain the characteristics, development, and transformations of armor and changes in ancient society need to emerge through diverse topics and methodologies. Moreover, armor, along with horse gear, represents artifacts that best demonstrate ancient manufacturing techniques, technological levels, and resulting cultural changes. Therefore, this study takes Silla armor as its primary subject matter and examines aspects of Silla armor production systems by organizing Silla's armor manufacturing techniques and styles, as well as production methods and distribution ranges. In particular, like case studies that have discussed the possibility and significance of local Silla production in metalwork including horse gear, this study also addresses differences in armor production between Silla's central and local regions. Additionally, to ensure the specificity of this discussion, a comparison with Gaya armor, which has been extensively discussed previously, was also examined. Through this approach, the study seeks to interpret the political and social historical significance of Silla armor in the process of Silla's state development.
