SK텔레콤 데이터 유출 사건 전후 대중의 보안 염려: LDA 토픽 모델링 분석

국문 초록

SK텔레콤의 데이터 유출 사고가 대규모로 광범위하게 일어났다. SK텔레콤의 미온적 대처로 인해 고객은 점점 신뢰를 잃어가고 있으며 고객 이탈, 제3자 기관에 제소, 집단 소송이 발생하는 등 위기 상황이 지속되고 있다. 이 연구는 보안 염려 이론을 요약하고, 이번 사고 전후 보도된 기사를 수집하여 텍스트 마이닝 기법을 활용하여 단어 빈도 분석과 LDA 토픽 모델링 분석을 진행하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면, 사고 전에 비해 사고 후 보안 관련 단어의 출현빈도가 매우 크게 증가했다. 사고 전에는 보안 관련 암호화폐, 보안 솔루션 등 매우 다양한 주제에 대한 단어가 출현하고 있는 반면, 사고 후에는 이번 SK텔레콤 데이터 유출 사고에 대한 조사 및 피해 최소화 대책에 관한 단어가 집중적으로 출현하고 있다. 관련 전문가와의 논의를 보강하여 도출된 이번 사태의 다섯 가지 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이번 사고는 귀한 실패사례로서 개인정보 보호 및 보안에 대한 근본적인 해결방안 마련에 적극 활용해야 한다. 둘째, 기간통신사업자가 안정적인 서비스 제공을 담보할 수 있도록 보호 대책이 수립되어야 한다. 셋째, 고객의 신뢰를 회복하기 위한 기업의 보다 적극적인 대응이 필요하다. 넷째, 위약금 등 사업자간 고객의 자유로운 이동을 막는 장애물이 꼭 필요한지에 대한 재검토가 필요하다. 다섯째, 해킹 사고 등 보안 위협이 국제적으로 발생하는 만큼 국가 간의 연대가 필요하다. 이 연구의 결과가 향후 보다 종합적이고 견고한 보안 관리 체계 마련에 기여하기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

The data breach incident at SK Telecom was extensive and widespread. Due to SK Telecom's lukewarm response, customers are increasingly losing trust, and the crisis continues with customer churn, complaints to third-party organizations, and class-action lawsuits. This study summarizes the theory of privacy concerns and collected news articles reported before and after this incident. It then employed text mining techniques to analyze news articles through word frequency analysis and LDA topic modeling. According to the analysis results, the word frequency analysis results shows that privacy related words increased significantly after the incident compared to before. While a wide variety of security-related words, such as cryptocurrency and security solutions, appeared before the incident, terms specifically related to the investigation of the SK Telecom data breach incident and measures for damage minimization have appeared predominantly since the incident. Based on reinforced discussions with relevant experts, five implications of this incident are derived as follows: First, this incident should be considered a valuable case of failure and actively utilized in developing fundamental solutions for the privacy protection and security. Second, measures should be implemented to ensure the stable service provision by telecommunication carriers. Third, more proactive corporate responses are necessary to restore customer trust. Fourth, a re-evaluation of the necessity of barriers preventing customers' free churn between companies, similar to the case of penalty fees, is required. Fifth, international solidarity is necessary as privacy and security threats like hacking incidents occur globally. This study could contribute to establish more comprehensive and robust security management systems in the future.
