Exploring the Impact of Blockchain Technology Application on Firm Dynamic Capability Development and Firm Performance : Evidence from Chinese Firms

국문 초록

본 연구는 블록체인 기술 활용이 기업 성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하며, 이 과정에서의 동태적 역량의 매개 역할에 초점을 맞춘다. 2016년부터 2023년까지 중국 A주 상장기업의 패널 데이터를 기반으로 총 1,305개의 관측치를 수집하였으며, 고정효과 회귀모형을 통해 제시된 가설들을 검증하였다. 블록체인 관련 공시 내용을 수집⋅분석하기 위해 Python을 활용하였고, 수집된 데이터는 Excel과 Stata 17.0을 사용하여 통계 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 블록체인 기술 활용은 동태적 역량 중 흡수역량과 혁신역량을 강화하여 기업성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나, 적응역량에는 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 이질성 분석 결과 블록체인 기술의 효과가 제조업에서 더 뚜렷하게 나타남을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 블록체인과 같은 외부 기술이 내재적 가치를 창출하는 것이 아니라, 기업 고유의 역량을 통해 그 잠재력을 성과로 전환할 수 있음을 보여줌으로써 동태적 역량 이론을 확장하였다. 실무적으로는, 기업들이 블록체인 기술 도입에 있어서 범용적 솔루션으로 간주하기보다는 자사의 역량 수준과 산업 특성에 부합하는 차별화된 도입 전략을 수립해야 함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study examines the impact of blockchain technology application on firm performance, focusing specifically on the influence of dynamic capabilities in this relationship. Using panel data from 1,305 observations of Chinese A-share listed firms between 2016 and 2023, the analysis employs fixed effects regression models to test the proposed relationships. Python was used to conduct automated text analysis of blockchain-related disclosures in corporate annual reports, and the resulting data were processed and analyzed using Excel and Stata 17.0. Fixed effects regression results demonstrate that blockchain technology application positively affects firm performance via enhanced absorptive and innovative capabilities, whereas adaptive capability exhibits no significant effect. Heterogeneity analysis further reveals that the performance impact of blockchain is more pronounced in manufacturing firms. Theoretically, the study enriches dynamic capability theory by demonstrating how external technologies like blockchain are not inherently value-generating but require firm-specific capabilities to translate potential into performance. Practically, the results suggest that firms should align their blockchain adoption strategies with their existing capability structures and industry-specific demands.
