국문 초록

This study examines the aspects and characteristics of disasters depicted in Souseki’s works. Souseki’s works depict fires, earthquakes, storms, and epidemics, among other disasters. Fires are featured prominently in “Sanshirō” and “Mon,” earthquakes in “Sorekara,” storms in “Koujin”, and epidemics in “Sorekara” and “Kokoro”. Souseki effectively inserts the descriptions of various disasters that occurred in society at the time of writing into his works, but does not directly depict the damage caused by the disasters or the lives of the victims. The disaster brings out the personalities of characters such as Daisuke and Kenzo clearly, and it has a major impact on the fates of Sousuke, Zirou, Sensei, and Michiyo. Disasters not only reflect the state of the Meiji era and people’s lives, but are also keywords that effectively convey a series of themes that run through Souseki’s works, such as anxiety, loneliness, and distrust. This study is significant in that it focuses on the keyword “disaster” to analyze Souseki’s works.

영문 초록

本研究は、漱石の作品に描かれた災害の様相と特徴について考察したものである。漱石の作品には、さまざまな災害の中で、火事、地震、暴風雨、伝染病が描かれている。火事は『三四郎』や『門』、地震は『それから』、暴風雨は『行人』、伝染病は『それから』や『こゝろ』に顕著に現れている。 漱石は、執筆当時、社会で起きていた様々な災害を効果的に作品に挿入しているが災害による被害や被災者の生活を直接的には描かない。災害によって代助や健三といった登場人物の性格がはっきりと現れ、災害は宗助、次郎、先生、三千代の運命に大きな影響を與える。災害は、明治時代の様子や人々の生活を反映しているだけでなく、不安、孤独、不信など、漱石の作品を貫く一連のテーマを効果的に傳えるキーワードになっている。 災害というキーワードに注目して漱石の作品を分析した点で意義深い研究といえよう。
