동화책을 활용한 시스템사고 교육 방안에 관한 시론적 탐색

국문 초록

지속가능성에 대한 논의가 더욱 절박해지는 시대적 흐름 속에서, 교육 역시 더 이상 미룰 수 없는 근본적인 변화를 요구받고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 교육의 근본적인 변화를 견인할 수 있는 시스템사고를 접목한 구체적이고 실질적인 교육 방안을 탐색하는 데 초점을 맞춘다. 특히, 미래 세대에게는 문제 현상을 종합적 관점에서 바라보고, 장기적인 해결책을 모색하는 훈련이 필요하다는 점에서, 초등학생을 대상으로 동화책을 활용한 시스템사고 교육 방안을 모색하는 것은 의의가 있다. 이를 위해 문헌 연구를 통해 시스템사고의 개념과 특징을 분석하고, 그 교육적 효과를 검토하였으며, 동화책의 교육적 효과를 입증한 국내 선행연구를 바탕으로 아동기 시스템사고 교육의 중요성을 탐색하였다. 동화책은 초등학생들에게 친숙한 매체이면서도 시스템사고 개념을 자연스럽게 접목하기에 적합한 도구이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 특성을 활용하여 동화책을 기반으로 한 시스템사고 교육의 가능성을 제시하였다. 또한, 선행연구 분석을 기반으로 시스템사고 교육에 적합한 동화책을 선정하는 여섯 가지 기준을 도출하였으며, 교육 방안에 적용할 핵심 개념으로 연결, 인과관계, 인과순환지도, BOTg, 저량유량지도, 빙산 모델, What if, 피드백 루프, 지연 등을 선정하였다. 이를 종합하여 수업 모델을 간단하게 설계하고, 학년별 수준(저·중·고학년)에 맞춰 세 가지 수업 모델을 제안하였다. 본 연구에서 제안한 동화책 기반 시스템사고 교육 방안은 초등교육에서 시스템사고를 효과적으로 도입하고 적용하는 방향을 설정하는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

In an era where discussions on sustainability have become increasingly urgent, education also demands fundamental change that can no longer be postponed. This study explores practical educational approaches incorporating systems thinking, which can drive significant transformation in education. Recognizing the necessity for future generations to analyze problems comprehensively and pursue long-term solutions, this research emphasizes using storybooks to teach systems thinking to elementary school students. Through literature review, this study analyzed the concepts and characteristics of systems thinking and examined its educational effectiveness. It also explored the significance of teaching systems thinking during childhood, based on domestic studies proving the educational value of storybooks. Storybooks are familiar to elementary students and naturally suited to integrating the principles of systems thinking, thus presenting an effective educational medium. Based on prior research, this study identified six criteria for selecting appropriate storybooks for systems thinking education. Essential concepts selected for instructional strategies included connections, causality, causal loop diagrams, BOTg, stock-flow diagrams, the iceberg model, ‘what if’scenarios, feedback loops, and delays. Combining these elements, three instructional models tailored to different grade levels (lower, middle, upper) were outlined. The proposed storybook-based systems thinking education plan is expected to effectively guide the integration and implementation of systems thinking within elementary education.
