국문 초록

이 연구는 객관적, 통계적 분석과 더불어 개인적 관찰 및 일화 기록 방식에 기초하여 한국학 전공 프로그램을 제공하고 있는 호주 대학들에 대한 최근 정보를 소개하고 학문 교류 활동들을 살펴본다. 또한, 한국학 프로그램의 발전 과정, 현황 및 특성을 알아보고, 당면 과제와 전망을 제시한다. 구체적으로, 한국학을 제공하는 호주 대학들의 국제적 위상과 같은 몇몇 주요 통계 지표를 비롯하여 글로벌 학습 프로그램에 대한 정보 제시로 시작한다. 한국어와 한국학 전공 프로그램의 전개 과정과 현황을 분석하여 제시하고, 정부 지원 및 교수요원 임명, 교육및 연구 접근 방식, 한국학 관련 학술협의체의 최근 활동 등을 분석하여 제시한다. 또한, 한국학 제공 호주 대학의 강점, 약점, 기회 및 위협의 핵심 요인을 간략히 요약하여 제시한다. 아울러, 교수요원 확충, 강좌 개설, 신진 학자군 양성, 디지털 또는 가상 연구집단 구성 등 몇몇과제들을 제시하고 간략히 논의한다. 끝으로 이런 호주 대학들의 경험 들이 다른 지역의 한국학 발전에 시사하는 바를 간략히 논의한다. 영문 초록

Journal of the International Network for Korean Language and Culture 17-2, 75-98. Based on objective or quantitative analysis, personal observations and some anecdotal notes, this study presents the recent developments of Australian universities that offer Korean Studies major programs and their academic activities. Additionally, this study presents an analysis of the current state of Korean Studies programs and their characteristic developments and explores their current and future challenges. Specifically, the study begins by presenting a main statistical index-namely the global standings of the Australian universities that offer Korean Studies-together with information about their global learning programs. It then undertakes analysis of their development in stages and the current state of the Korean language and Korean studies programs, in addition to investigating government support and the appointment of faculty members, approaches to teaching and research, and the recent activities of academic bodies that are related to Korean Studies. The study also briefly highlights the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges of the Australian universities that offer Korean Studies. The study followingly presents and briefly discusses challenges such as establishing new faculty positions, offering new disciplinary courses, raising early career scholars, and forming digital or virtual research clusters. It concludes with a brief discussion regarding the implications from the experiences of Australian universities for the development of Korean Studies in other regions.(UNSW)
