국문 초록

텔레비전의 대중화는 일상생활에 영향을 주었고 인접한 다른 매체들을 변화시켰다. 영화는 텔레비전을 시기하고 적대시했지만 또한 텔레비전으로부터 새로운것을 발견하게 된다. 1950년대 텔레비전이 대중화될 때 지식인이나 영화인들은텔레비전을 무시했다. 텔레비전은 영화와 같은 예술이 될 수 없다고 비판했다. 그러나 앙드레 바쟁은 텔레비전에서 영화의 미래를 보았다. 본 연구는 텔레비전에대한 바쟁의 글을 중심으로 로셀리니, 르누와르, 그리고 트뤼포의 영화 속에 표현된 텔레비전적인 스타일을 논의하고자 한다. 바쟁은 1952년부터 1958년 사망할 때까지 텔레비전에 대한 100여 편의 글을발표한다. 바쟁은 텔레비전이 영화에 어떤 도움을 줄 수 있을 것인지 그리고 영화가 텔레비전에서 배워야 할 것이 무엇인지를 탐색한다. 그의 글에는 텔레비전이 영화의 형식을 새롭게 만들 것이라는 예리한 통찰력이 담겨 있다. 바쟁은 텔레비전이 만들어 내는 사실효과에 주목했다. 텔레비전은 영화와는 다른 방식으로사실성을 구현한다. 바쟁은 현전성(présence), 생방송이 전달하는 직접적인 시간, 개인의 일상 속에 존재하는 친밀감을 새로운 방식의 리얼리즘으로 보았다. 그는이러한 텔레비전의 스타일이 영화의 형식을 새롭게 할 수 있을 것이라 생각했다. 텔레비전에 대한 바쟁의 관심은 새로움을 추구하는 창조적인 감독에게 영향을주었다. 로베르토 로셀리니, 장 르누와르, 프랑소와 트뤼포는 고전영화에서 현대영화로 넘어가는 지점에서 중요한 위치를 차지한다. 이들은 바쟁과의 인터뷰를통해 혹은 평론을 통해 영화와 텔레비전의 공생을 주장하였으며, 자신들의 영화속에 변용된 텔레비전 스타일을 표현하였다. 이들의 시도는 현대 영화라는 새로운 세계의 문을 열게 했다. 텔레비전은 1950년대 가장 개혁적이고 새로운 형식의영화에 영향을 주었다. 로셀리니의 <이탈리아 여행>은 텔레비전이 알려준 새로운 시각성을 표현한다. 주인공의 시선을 통해 관객의 눈앞에 우연처럼 펼쳐지는사건의 나열은 텔레비전의 현전성을 구현한다. 르누와르는 <코들리에 박사의 유언>에서 텔레비전 생방송 방식으로 영화를 촬영하며, 사실효과를 연출하고자 했다. 쇼트 중심의 영화적 촬영에서 벗어나 여러 대의 카메라를 통해 시퀀스 중심으로 촬영하여 텔레비전 스타일의 연속적이고 직접적인 시간을 표현했다. 트뤼포는 <400번의 구타>에서 텔레비전이 보여주는 친밀성을 인용한다. 일상 언어로된 대사, 텔레비전 인터뷰 스타일의 장면 연출과 편집, 핸드 핼드의 롱테이크, 카메라 정면보기 등 텔레비전적인 스타일이 트뤼포의 영화에서 재탄생한다.

영문 초록

The popularization of TV has influenced people’s lifestyle and also changed other media formats. Film industry did not welcome the emerge of TV, but to find new aspects from it. At the early stage of TV, intellectuals and film staffs ignored TV and did not consider it as a form of art. Meanwhile, Andre Bazin saw the future of film in TV. This study is based on Bazin’s writings on TV, discussing TV-like styles shown in films of Rossellini, Renoir, and Truffaut. André Bazin publishes around a hundred writings regarding television from 1952 to the year he died, 1958. He explores the world of TV and seeks what film industry can learn from it. In the writings, he shows a sharp insight on the fact that TV will reconstruct the formality of the film. He mainly focused on the realism. TV builds realism with the different way film does. Présence, simultaneity and the sense of closeness to individuals. Bazin considered these as the new way of realism. He thought this TV style can refresh the film industry. His thoughts provoked directors who were willing to try and create new things. Roberto Rossellini, Jean Renoir and Francois Truffaut: these directors had an important role in transition period between classic films and modern films. Through interviews and critiques with Bazin, they argued that the films should go along with the TV. They also portrayed TV-like styles in their films. It was their attempts that opened the new era of modern films. TV had a great impact on the most revolutionary and new films in the 1950s. Rossellini’s adopted a new perspective that the TV gave. The array of events shown in the main character’s view implies coexistence of TV. Renoir’s was filmed like the TV records live broadcast, creating the realism of TV. He portrayed TV’s continual and directional time by filming with multiple cameras and sequences, not in the traditional way of shorts centered filming. In , Truffaut uses the sense of closeness from TV. Lines that are ordinary, edited scenes that looks like a TV interviews, long takes with handheld, character looking strait into the camera. These are all TV styles that are recreated in Truffaut’s films.
