국문 초록

켄 로치 감독의 2016년 작 <나, 다니엘 블레이크>는 서사구조 면에서 그의 초 기작 <캐시 컴 홈>(1966)을 연상시킨다. 이 영화들은 평범한 영국의 보통 사람들 을 주인공으로 설정해서 이들이 사고와 질병으로 일을 하지 못하게 되면서 겪게 되는 사회적 추락을 주요 내용으로 한다. 이 과정에서 관찰되는 복지제도의 허점 과 모순은 영화의 사회비판적 성격을 뚜렷하게 보여준다. 평범한 소망이 이루어지지 못하고 주인공이 좌절하는 과정을 묘사하는 서사 방식은 두 영화가 비슷하 지만, 영화의 마지막에 구체적으로 문제점을 지적한다는 점에서 <캐시 컴 홈>은 <나, 다니엘 블레이크>에 비해서 영화를 통한 사회의 변화 가능성에 대해 더 긍 정적인 입장을 보인다. 또한 1960년대 비자연주의 미학의 산물로 <캐시 컴 홈>은 형식 실험에 더 열려있다는 점도 특징적이다. 이 영화는 픽션과 다큐멘터리의 경 계를 모호하게 함으로써 더 많은 관심을 유도하고, 이로써 극의 사회적, 정치적 목표를 이루는데 적극적이었다. 반면, <나, 다니엘 블레이크>는 1990년대 이후 로치가 노동자와 사회적 약자를 다루어온 많은 영화에서 보여준 관찰자적 스타 일을유지하고있다. 무엇보다특별히관객의주목을끌수있는형식적인요소 를 배제하는데, 이것은 관객이 등장인물에 집중할 수 있게 하기 위해서다. 이를 통해서 로치의 영화가 관객이 본질적인 내용에 집중할 수 있도록 변화했음을 두 작품의 비교를 통해서 예시적으로 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

Ken Loach’s film (2016) is reminiscent of his early work (1966) in terms of narrative structure. These two contemporary films set ordinary people in Britain as the main characters, tell the story about their social fall when they are unable to work due to accidents and illnesses. The loopholes and contradictions in the welfare system observed in this process clearly show the social critical character of the films. Although the two films have similar narrative ways of describing the failure of ordinary wishes and the frustration of the main character, is more positive about the possibility of social change through film than in that it specifically points out the concrete problems at the end of the film. Also as a product of the 1960s’ “non-naturalistic” aesthetics, is more open to formal experimentation. This film has drawn attention by blurring the boundaries between fiction and documentary, and has played an important role in achieving the social and political change. , on the other hand, retains the observer style Loach has shown in many films that have dealt with workers and the socially disadvantaged since the 1990s. Above all, it specifically excludes formal elements that can attract the audience’s attention, so that the audience can concentrate on the characters and their stories.
