지적장애아를 둔 어머니의 양육 경험 및 삶의 질에 대한 질적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 지적장애아 자녀를 둔 어머니의 양육 경험 및 삶의 질을 이해하는데 있다. 구체적인 연구과제로는 Strauss & Corbin(1998)의 근거이론의 단계에 의한 개념과 범주의 추출 및 그에 따른 일련의 분석을 위해 다음과 같이 설정하였다. 먼저, 한 자녀 이상의 지적장애아를 둔 어머니에게 자녀의 장애출현은 어떤 의미를 지니는가? 또한 지적장애아 자녀를 둔 어머니가 장애자녀를 정서적·심리적으로 수용하기까지의 과정은 어떠한가? 그리고 가족, 특히 남편의 지지와 격려는 주 양육자로서의 어머니의 삶을 어떻게 변화시켰는가? 이같은 연구결과에 따른 제언으로 지적장애아를 둔 어머니의 가족과 학교, 지역사회 그리고 국가에 대한 요망사항으로는 어떠한 것을 생각할 수 있는가? 위의 연구문제에 대해 본 연구에서는 인터뷰를 통한 심층적 조사를 통하여 지적장애아 어머니들의 전향적인 양육경험을 이끌어 내고 그들의 삶의 질을 높이는데 기여하고자 한다.이를 위해 지적장애특수학교에 재학하고 있는 지적장애아를 둔 어머니 5명을 심층면접한 후, 근거이론 방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 심층면담을 통하여, 자료분석을 한 결과 19개의 범주와 32개의 하위범주, 96개의 개념이 도출되었다. 지적장애아를 둔 어머니의 양육경험에서 인과적 상황은 장애발현이었고, 현상은 절망감, 죄의식, 마음의 병, 신체의 병이었으며, 이 현상에 영향을 미치는 맥락적 조건은 결혼생활의 갈등, 좌절감, 양육스트레스로 나타났다. 이러한 상황 또는 맥락적 조건 속에서 전략을 촉진하거나 억제하는 방향으로 작용하는 중재적 조건은 지지체계, 적극적인 양육경험, 신앙심이었으며, 작용/상호작용 전략은 존재감, 가족의 인식변화, 스트레스 해소, 잠재적 불안감이었고 결과는 성인기 삶 대비로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to have an understanding of the maternal experience of mothers with one or more mentally disabled children and their quality of life. The research tasks selected in this study were to investigate how mothers with one or more mentally disabled children raised him or her(them), how their lives were affected by mentally disabled children, what changes there were in their lives before and after having the disabled children, what future plans they had, what sorts of stress their children gave them and how they got rid of the stress. Strauss & Corbin(1990)'s grounded theory methodology had been adopted since that served the purpose of this study that was to have a profound and realistic understanding of the quality of life among mothers with mentally disabled children to set up relevant concepts and theories in an inductive manner. The subjects in this study were five mothers whose children were diagnosed with mental disability and attended special school with mental disability. Out of them, some had a mentally disabled child, and some had a nondisabled child and a mentally disabled child. The others had two mentally disabled children. There appeared 19 categories, 32 subcategories and 96 concepts in this study. The causal situation for the maternal experience of the mothers with mentally disabled children was the discovery of disability. Their experiential phenomena were despair, guilt, mental disease and physical illness, and the contextual conditions that affected the phenomena were conjugal conflicts, frustration and maternal stress. Backing system, active child-rearing experience and faith were interventions that facilitated or curbed their reality-coping strategies in such situations or contexts. The action/interaction strategies used by them were seeking a reason for being, changing the mind-set of families, stress easing and potential anxiety. And the results of the strategies was that they made a preparation for their children's adulthood life.
