Perceptions of American Secondary Special Education Teachers on Family Partnership during Transition

국문 초록

연구에 따르면 중등학교에서의 학부모참여는 장애청소년의 성공적인 성인생활로의 전환을 가져오는 중요한 요인이라고 보고하였다. 그러나 학부모들은 대개 자녀의 전환계획에 있어서 소극적인 참여를 하는 경우가 많다. 학부모들은 중등특수교육교사와 좋은 관계와 효과적인 의사소통이 그들의 참여를 증진시킨다고 지적하였다. 그럼에도 불구하고 안타깝게도 중등특수교육교사는 학부모와 효과적으로 협력하는 데에 있어서 필요한 구체적인 기술이나 전략을 가지고 있지 못하다고 보고하였다. 이러한 학부모와의 파트너십에 대한 부족한 지식 및 전략은 결국 중등특수교육교사들이 학부모와 함께 장애청소년에 대한 전환계획을 세울 때 부정적인 태도로 나타날 수 있다. 따라서 이 연구는 구체적으로 전환기간동안 학부모와 파트너십에 대한 중등특수교육교사의 태도 및 준비성에 대해 어떻게 인식하고 있는지 설문 조사하였다. 연구결과에 따르면 중등특수교육교사들은 전환기간 학부모와 파트너십에 대한 거의 모든 문항들에 중요하다고 답했지만, 준비성에 대해서는 부족하다고 인식하고 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 이 논문에서는 교사양성교육에 있어서 학부모와 파트너십에 대한 체계적인 관심이 필요함을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Although American secondary special education teachers consider family involvement as important and play a critical role in parent participation during transition, they often do not have concrete knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to collaborate with families effectively because the topic of family involvement in special education has not enjoyed a central role in teacher education programs. Little attention has been paid to the need to prepare secondary education teachers to work with families and their communities. The lack of preparation for working with families to involve them in education of their children remains a weakness in teacher education programs. Therefore, this study examined how secondary special education teachers consider their attitudes toward the importance of the partnership with families of students with disabilities and how they perceived their preparedness for the competencies in this area.
